Finally at 4pm I get to Check into my business class flight with Air Canada. I get my boarding pass and check my bag and I am finally headed for the gate and the lounge where I can finally relax, i am totally wiped and feeling not well. Wheni am almost at security the check in agent has come running after me. Apparently there is something wrong with my suitcase. I get back there and some stupid girl and guy are flipping out about me having a lighter. I open my huge bag and there is ONE lighter in there. Ridiculous but as i go through security in Korea I am just picked apart for every little thing. So I get on my Dreamliner flight from Soeul to Korea. I was looking forward to business class on the dreamliner but now i'm just happy to have a decent seat. The dreamliner is great and the business class suites are big and pretty comforatable. The TVs are big and new which is great. The food is ok and I get lots of sleep even though i feel like crap. We leave Seoul at 7pm and get to Vancouver around 11am.

Lol! I thought there was a typo on the year. Took me a few seconds to catch it. Lol.
I noticed on on the AC website that ANA flys the route from Tokyo to Bangkok.
Asiana is the same airline that flew the 787 into the runway at SF airport a couple years back. Watch the Mayday episode about it. Pilots had thousands of hours in the cockpit but little stick time landing and taking off as the computers do it all. Until shit hits the fan and the pilot needs to take over. I will avoid flying them.

The Ladyboy Volleyball is always going to be around the Saturday in November so that is the approximate dates.
I hate going through Japan. The airport lounges are the worst and the people aren't very friendly.
Plus if you get stuck in Japan you need a visa to leave the airport.
If you read back in my trip report you will see at the end Asiana screwed me over on my business class flight
They didn't check my bags through to Vancouver, so I had to go through customs and immigration to get my bags.
It was a business class fare and i had free access to the lounge but instead I had to sit in the terminal on a bench for 9 hours.
Asiana fucked up and Air Canada didn't care, even though I bought the ticket from AC.
I'm going to avoid asiana and Air Canada now, if possible.
Korea is kind of shitty too, after i checked in my bag again they called me back because there was ONE disposable lighter in my suitcase.
Sheesh!
Problem is that if you don't live in a major city, AC has you by the balls.
I have to pay lot to fly to Vancouver or Toronto to get to Bangkok or it is basically included in an Air Canada flight.
Air Canada used to be much better internationally.
Hong Kong is my preferred transfer point to Bangkok, and Air Canada appears to be using Cathay Pacific from there now.
Also I made a more detailed trip report here.

Haven't flown Cathay but know people who do fly icy to HK and they speak highly of the airline. Unfortunately, they are not part of the Star Alliance network.
If Your major complaint about Korean is the lighter that is not bad. Had mine confiscated in China when I flew Air China to Beijing. Airline is not for North Americans as we are bigger than Asians. It was the worst 11 hours of my life, one way and then return. Very cramped.
Worst i I had were two Cuban cigars confiscated by a zealous US customs officer. Got taken into the back, suitcase retrieved and the she broke them up in front of me. Had to fill out paperwork, provide drivers license in addition to passport. Haven't brought Cuban cigars with me to the US since and not had any problems with customs because of it.
Thai airlines is part of SA but do not operate out of Canada. They do fly direct from SF or LA into Bangkok.

I have flown Thai many times on connections from Air Canada.
Not to mention the whole Air Canada elite program has gone to shit and isn't worth a fuck anymore.
So really the Star Alliance thing isn't as interesting as it once was.
Used to be if I flew twice to Bangkok a year I would get Star Alliance Gold. Now I would have to go 3 times.
Not to mention with taxes and fees the aeroplan miles barely get you anything anymore.
The best place to use your Aeroplan miles is in Thailand actually. Bangkok has no taxes and fees so you can get really good deals with miles. I flew to Phuket from Bangkok for 20,000 miles plus $7 taxes and fees. This is also the same price I have paid to fly to Singapore and Hong Kong on points from Bangkok. I bought my GF a direct flight on Thai Airways from Paris to Bangkok for 105,000 Aeroplan miles and $185 in fees and tax.
A couple time i bought a flight to Hong Kong on Air Canada then bought a Business class flight on Thai separately.
This worked once but the second time I missed my Hong Kong flight because of a snow storm in Canada and had a bitch of a time changing my Thai flight because their offices were closed when it is day time here.
Also Thai has cancelled all direct flights to North America, and all Thai Airlines have been downgraded due to safety issues across the entire industry in Thailand.
Now days I am more interested in trying to get business class flights than caring about status.
If I buy business class I get lounge access anyway.

Air fare to Bangkok (BKK)
I did not have any air miles or whatnot so I was fully paying for my flight. I booked about 1 month out or so and I got a rtn flight with very small layovers in Guangzhou China (IATA code ZGGG) (second busiest airport in China) for 959.00 CDN on a pretty modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline is no frills no bar service but give you wine and water or pop, no beer no hard stuff and lots to eat, although it bring your own snacks. The seat is OK but the cushion gets kinda hard after 8 hours, so I sat on my airline pillow... Next time I am bringing an inflatable cushion to park my ass on. I also bought a memory foam neck pillow which was invaluable. Also the use the goofy 2 prong headset jack so buy an adapter to use your own headset. Earplugs were handy too as the flight is popular for families. The layover in China means you cram onto a bus to transfer but the new airport terminal should be done next year there so I assume that will change. I might spend a few hundred more to try a different airline next time just for the experience, we will see, but all in all it was pretty much just as good as any economy flight in Canada I have taken. The flight to BKK from from ZGGG was about 2.5 hours on a 737 with another meal. I think in all I had 4 airline meals (chicken pork and rice or noodles and some mystery food?? and a dinner roll) the whole trip over.

The Sanctuary of Truth is a huge project by some rich guy. He is building a huge sanctuary of wooden carvings that is supposed to be heaven recreated on earth. They are following old Thai guidelines for religious architecture and this building is apparently constantly under construction with new carvings and pieces added all the time. It is quite impressive.
