The link is this post mentions studies from the late 80s and early 90s. These might be out of date. And condom manufacturing has probably improved greatly since then.

When I first read stiggy's post my reaction was the same as yours. At first I felt that I had to respond but didn't. Now you have ignited the fuse again, so here are my thoughts. I hope that no one who read that report was foolish enough to believe it.

Scientific reports are most often misinterpreted by those who have no scientific background, and even some who do. They are usually very difficult or next to impossible for the layman to interpret because they are written in a language that only a researcher can understand. For example, look at all the conflicting "scientific reports" about coffee drinkers and the effects or problems that coffee can cause or cure. Every day it seems there is a new study refuting the claims of previous studies.

The use and safety of condoms is researched world wide by such agencies as the US Center for Disease Control (CDC), Health Canada and similar agencies, all of which support the use of condoms as providing guaranteed protection against most STDs including HIV/AIDS, [provided of course that there is no breakage], as do all local Health Units and the local Hassle Free Clinic.

I would much prefer to take their advice rather than that of the author of the report that stiggy has posted here.
