Male , female and transgendered.

Hey all. Well, I was channel surfing the other day and was watching 20/20 or Nightline or something along those lines. I tuned in during the middle of a story but it was interesting enough. Something about how India and just a very select few other countries around the world legally recognize transgenders as a 3rd sex. There was mention that in these countries that passports, job applications, websites etc all listed "transgendered" as a 3rd sex.

I'm still on the fence with this topic and haven't voted ... yet. Seems there is much to consider.

Hope people have some thoughts to share on this.

I was unaware that any country legally recognises a third sex. My limited understanding of Hindu culture is that they recognise transgender as a third sex but this hasn't been translated into law.

Well, I wish I had recorded and remembered what the show was. 20/20, Nightline, Nightly News.....it was something like that. The journalist interviewed from India had made the claim. Perhaps the translator for the journalist was wrong in interpreting or maybe not but the question is though wether we should follow in this.

Now I'm even more curious as to what nations have made it law.

Brazil has made it a law, and there are even some transfriendly washrooms I have seen in Canada (not their own washroom, but a tri-gender sign [some university bathrooms] is put up to show their community is user friendly)

It's a kind of nice idea but I don't think in practice it is a good one. It might be supposed to promote tolerance but will actually single transgender people out and could provoke further nasty intolerance. Besides, in my experience, most transexual women consider themselves to be female anyway whatever they were born as, so it would be better just to legally recognise transgender people as being their new sex rather than a third one.

I don’t think that it should count as third gender.

They are female every single way talking, walking, laughing, leaving styles, clothing and there likes.
By the way they are Human so stop counting as genders just treat them well.

Yes, you're right youngboy4ts. They are human. I would treat them like anyone else. with the greatest respect.

I think that we should be recognised as a third sex. I am very proud to be tg I came a long way within my social groups to get where I am today. Why should you feel ashamed for who you are? Even if you do get a sex change I believe you will always be a tg woman... Nothing will ever change that... Yes labels are bs but why run from who you are. The more you run the more you look ashamed and the more it will hold back tg's in main stream societies eye's. Stand up and and be proud of who and what you are.

well said sister! If society recognizes us as the third sex it might break down the misconceptions society has about TG's and give a better understanding of who we are as people. Alyssa
