  • "Girl Inside" TVOntario Documentary

Been a while since I've posted a topic here. Yeah, I've been ill. Wasn't speaking properly or thinking straight and even acting weird but finally over it now and haven't felt better.

Well. I hope other people saw this documentary. It was shown on TVO the other day and it was a definite eye opener for me. Now, some may say that this board may sound like " yay for t women " but you know what...yeah....yay for t women. After what I saw I couldn't imagine what more to say.

The documentary was of a woman named Madison who went through the whole transition process. Now I tuned in during the middle of the documentary but got most of what her story was about. I'm not going to write out a lot but just state the biggest points I found interesting and a little shocking.

    - Madison NEVER liked being a "male" She HATED the gender she was born
    - Her transition was only 3 years. That was kinda like ..huh? Only 3 years?
    - In the 3 years she only saw a neurologist, psychotherapist and cardiologist. I don't undertsand the cardiologist
    - She had a boyfriend before she transitioned and is still with the guy after the change.
    - Her operation was done in Montreal and was only 2 and half hours. Normally from the sounds of it its 4 hours or more so I don't get that either
    - The cost of the operation was 16,000$ I thought the price was MUCH higher

and she achieved her transition on a low paying job.

After the documentary there was an online discussion people could join and even more interesting things were brought up.

Not all girls go through the final process. Some are happy just with the "look" but still have the drive to appear as female as possible. There was some talk of how its easier for women to become men and how its much harder for men to be women Then of course there are the double lives some have to live among other things.

Point is during the documentary Madison always said I know who I am and was so DETERMINED. I'd never seen anyone like that in my entire life. Yeah....I don't know what more to say than that except WOW!! The stuff that people have to go through. I'm still in shock.

Did anyone else see this documentary?

One Question: This girl who they featured in the "Girl Inside" TVOntario Documentary isn't the Madison B (bartender) from Goodhandys?

Yeah Ana is right. I've been to Goodhandy's but never saw her behind the bar. In the documentary she had a job with computers if I recall.

Still don't understand how the procedure took 2 and half hours though let alone why she saw a cardiologist.

After the documentary someone from 519 had answered a few questions and a psychotherapist named Rupert Raj also gave some opinions on the subject.

Yes Rupert is. Changed in 1971 at the age of 19.

Everytime one of these shows are produced they often use girls with huge emotional conflicts.
Way too much drama, way way too much drama.
I havent seen this show but I tend to not bother with them any more.
I do not find them even remotely accurate and they tend to be filled with more BS then you find in the forums.

                    lol agreed.

Shelby. You may have seen your fair share of these shows but this movie didn't show any huge emotional conflicts....just that she wanted to be a girl badly and she had to save every penny she got to get the operation.

What emotional conflicts we talking about here?

I mean...from what I saw she never burst into tears or got super irate or anything in fact she was well mannered.

                    and.......

Can ANYONE explain to me why she or any other girl would have to see a cardiologist? It still doesn't make sense why you would have to see a cardiologist.

How could it be a worth while watch if they never explained why she had to see a cardiologist? A little drama perhaps?
There is much more to full transition then having SRS or any surgery for that matter.
I certainly intend to have SRS but it does not impact how I see myself. Its certainly shows a strong commitment of her will to scrimp and save for an SRS operation. The danger ofcorse are to the ones that simply cannot survive without SRS or operations in general. If you need to prove to yourself that an operation will make you female then you really need some psychological help. If you seek SRS to simply finalize your transition that is another matter altogether. Often times it is the first for many and that is why there are guidelines set.
SRS is not the answer for many these days and in the end you either is or isnt in your own mind, and no operation will ever change that IMHO

Well I don't know what more to add to this topic. I only watched about two thirds or possibly half of the documentary. I did tune in late but if it airs again I would most likely see the whole thing. Needless to say it has brought up many concerns for all ladies within the community as you yourself Shelby mentioned with yours.

And like Lisa said elsewhere.... try walking in her shoes for a day....I know I couldn't.

and like Tasha...when I read her posts I get the feeling she says that its all about integrity and being true to yourself.

                            Just my thoughts.

Say it again : "Yay for T Women"
