I've used PC's from way back in the early 90's, back in the days of Amigas. I loved MAC and Amiga, and PC's pretty much sucked.
BUT
The sad fact is that that IBM (the inventor of the PC) was much more visionary than APPLE was, and licensed it's architecture to the world, and hence the revolution of clones, and PC's under various brands. If APPLE would have done that, rather than take the narrow minded approach, they would have been a real significant force today. Maybe 50% or better. We are in a captalist world, and he who makes the decision that allow others to make money, will have those people on their side. Nobody gets rid of a meal ticket. So where are we today? Billions of PCs and millons of MACs. The market share ratio is somewhere around 95% for PC to 5% for MAC. This is the main reason virus's and other malware are a much bigger problem on PC's. Virus writers won't usually waste their time if the impact is only a small fraction of the computers. Back in the 90's there were virus problems on MACs, just to prove they could do it. Unfortunately the same ratio applies to all Programs. 95% are written for PC and 5% for MAC. Most serious computer users who like MAC end up getting a PC as well. This doesn't work for many people, so they just buy PC.
True, Windows is not as solid, and has security flaws. True MAC has a better user interface. No question of it. Macs have always handled graphics and music better. Hell, my old Amiga with 1MB of ram multitasked graphics and music better than PC. Way better.
If you can only have one computer, and you need to do more than browse the internet and run Microsoft Office, then you have more options with a PC, you'll just have to have the right protection.
Just a side note. I commend my local medical clinic. They installed an all-mac network and do everything on mac. Each exam room has a mac, prescriptions on done on the mac...etc. Although I commend them, alomost every visit I've made, there's been some sort of network problem, or crash. Whether it's the MAC or the software, who knows, but it's not just PC's that have these issues.
