It's been quite a while since I've been to Thailand, but when I was there Chiang Mai was a great place for beginning a trek but Pattaya was where it was at for indoor recreation.

Cobbler is correct. If you are looking for ladyboys then Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket are the 3 best places in that order.
