  • What to do? Injured or sick cat on the street

.Hi. Does anyone know what to do if you see if see an injured cat, i heard the spca just puts them down but there's this cat on my street that is falling over and walking real funny, could be a head injury idk, ive seen the cat around before and it was fine and just not long ago i saw like that, his cat gf i think she? is , is waiting for him across the street, i tried to get close but he did a sort of run falling over and went behind these buildings. Anyone know of places that can help injured cats, are there vets that do pro bono or shelters that dont euthanize in Montreal? I hope he has a home but im not gonna be able to sleep so i'll keep checkin, omg poor baby

I google for no kill shelters but so far only see spca ouest which is in vaudreuil dorion , anyone know let me know please, his little friend is still waiting across the street its breaking my heart

Sorry my post is out of place, thank you for your time

Try local humane society as well. Some cats are born with a birth defect that causes them to shake and be off balance. But they can still live normal lives. If anything, try to bring food and water to the cat to tide it over until you can find help for it.

I wish they didnt fight , not sure it's that but I've seen the kitty twice since, once earlier tonight, he was still walking funny, really high awkward steps like a toddler or drunk, but although his balance seemed shaky he didnt fall, and he's still going, but its hard to get close, i left a can of food and some water outside and there's this other place up the street where they seem to leave food for the neighbourhood cats, i think theyre homeless, im going to keep trying to get close and bring him home but im worried about splitting him up from his friends and family its hard to know whats best sometimes, maybe he was born like that, idk. Got catnip and treats in my purse in case.

And i checked the humane society out, thanks tao1kiku btw, and see that they do fundraisers on fb and stuff to pay vet bills but they dont come get animals u have to bring, so that could be good for kitty possibly, and im gonna find out if i can volunteer too, i'd really like to do that.

To me it is our responsibility to care for the creatures on this earth. If you need to move the cat to a humane society you can use a cardboard box (like from a liquor store) and punch some large holes in it for air. And put a towel on the bottom so it is soft for the cat. The wobbliness may be a genetic defect but it can still live a normal happy life

And unless the cat is always with another cat, don;t worry about removing it from the colony, it sounds like it needs a medical checkout more than anything else

Ya the cat is almost always with his friend , there's actually like 3 or 4 of them that seem to be family or friends, so ya I worry about splitting them up.

I do have a big cage already since I have cats already, probably more than I'm supposed to, so that's not a problem, the cage is probably big enough for me to fit in too. Its just getting close to kitty which is tough.

I was thinking we'd foster the cat while it gets some medical care and some tlc , then reunite kitty with the others once kitty is good to go.

I'm just happy Kitty is still there and didn't die, I felt really really bad imagining the cat dying alone somewhere.

ok perfect you have a carrier. Best to have a humane society (a no kill) check him out. If he's gone from the colony for a few days it will be ok. They may rebuff him at first when he comes back because he has new smells on him, but they will eventually be friends again in a few days. It is about the quality of life for these creatures.

finally managed to get close and feed him! i think its a good start, its the first time he stayed close and ate candies when i tossed them to him. Then i went and got some canned and hard food + more candies, and he came out and ate, he was under a car. But i have to give him space cuz when i try to get to close he falls when he goes to run and thats sad to see and i dont want to stress him out too much. But im happy i was able to get closer than before.

It may take a few days before you will be able to get close enough to pet and give scratches to the cat. He/she is growing up feral so its had very little contact with humans and has not learned to trust. Give it time and he/she will eventually come up to you and allow physical contact

Part of the trap process may be setting food out in the cage 2-3 times so he goes in to eat. First 2-3 times just let him/her eat in the carrier. Then finally you can close the cage door and take the kitty to a vet.
