  • Nikki S - Transgender Columnist

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

As of May, 2008, the Agora Cosmopolitan is proud to welcome Nikki S. as our new Transgender Columnist. She will be writing a weekly interactive column dealing with trans-related issues, including the social, institutional and individual pressures faced by trans people on a daily basis.

Do you have a question about transitioning? Are you curious about what it is that makes t-girls so attractive? Or maybe just a comment about what it's like to be trans in today's society? Then feel free to contact Nikki at [email protected]. Selected questions will appear in her weekly column, and she'll respond to all e-mails directly. If you have any questions about anything trans-related, then Nikki's the right girl to ask.

A transsexual from Toronto, Nikki is attending University of Toronto for Sexual Diversity Studies and working towards her Master's in Counselling Psychology. Her goal is to become a psychologist specializing in gender issues and helping others in the GLBT and Trans communities.

She appears regularly at The Lounge and Goodhandy's as one of the 'Diamond Girl' dancers. She also works with several community and political organizations to improve the lives of trans people everywhere.

To read some of Nikki's previous articles, check out her site at http://www.agoracosmopolitan.com/nikki.html and she can be reached at [email protected].

Hey guys, thanks for the support. Details are still being worked out on the day of release, but chances are, it'll be on Mondays, starting on May 5.

I'm planning to write at least one more article before the interactive column starts, so keep checking back between now and the end of the month if you want to read more.

Also, I'm planning to do a "This Week at Goodhandy's" feature at the end of my column, so if you want to keep up on all the trans-related parties in Toronto, that's a good place to look.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm very excited about this opportunity.

          Nikki's Bare Facts

It will be great to read articles surrounding the intermittent activities within the T.G. community. I'm confident your articles will be objective and lively.

I suppose your familiar with, I believe the first name is Enza,a writer in the daily 'Metro'? She has come along nicely.

I look forward to reading your input. Best wishes for your success.

Thanks again everyone, it's so nice to read all this support coming in. I'm really looking forward to the chance to pitch in my two cents.

I've read a couple of Enza's articles, but I'm really not all that familiar with her. But, I heard that she's one of the leaders for the Pride Parade in Toronto this year, so kudos to her for that.

I'm not trying to come across as an expert, or a representative of the community or anything like that - I'm just a girl with a unique perspective that I want to share.

Check out my other articles at http://www.agoracosmopolitan.com/nikki.html, and let me know what you think - I'd love some feedback before I start standing on the soapbox on a weekly basis.

Congrats girl! good luck on your studies we need more voices and educated individuals as yourself in the community to chip away the misconceptions people have about who we are as people and to guide those who are in need of a voice to help them thru their transition. Alyssa

                          Blast from the past?

Wow, this is an old thread - looks like sameas decided to resurrect it with a healthy dose of spam.

I haven't done much with my column lately, but I have a couple of articles in the pipeline that I'm working on. I've shelved the "Coming Out" piece for another time, but now that school's done, I have so much more free time. I'll probably write one about my recent surgery, sort of a day-by-day journal of what it was like. It might be fun to try a different style of writing, something very unlike my academic pursuits.

Book? Highly unlikely, at least for a while - I'm trying to get a few things published elsewhere, and it looks like one of my old articles is going to be reprinted in U of T magazine later this month. I'll link it when it goes up.
