TDT, as far as computers go, that's pretty fast, but you didn't mention if this was a name brand comp. You can get something similiar or even better for around $799 - $1199 CDN, all name brand (Sony VAio, Hp/Compaq, Dell) all with pre-installed OS that if crashed, you can always recover the system. (all under 1 year manufacturer warranty). They also have in addition to the Dual Layer DVD burner, a second optical drive system (either a CD-rom or DVD rom) as well as Windows Media Centre, it will give you all the needs to watch and manage your mpgs, jpgs, avi's, mp3's, Atrac3plus and your TV viewing, all in the computer.
However, if you can, go with intel P4 cpu and see if you can get a different Dual layer DVD+-R/RW. I've used BenQ and the it's not the best out there, I've since changed to LG and my buddies are using Pioneer/HP. You did not mention if the system is expandable in the future should you desire to upgrade it. You might want to have extra spaces like an AGP or PCI slot and the hard drive is either running the old IDE or the new ATAPI cable to the mother board. \
If you have time, go and view the brand names and compare it to the system you are thinking of getting.

      TDT, almost forgot,
how many USB 2.0 does it have? does it have IEEE1394 (firewire) for video archiving for when you have a cam in the bedroom, you can transfer your videos from your digital video camera and make your porn movies.

For a computer to just surf the net for porn and look at jpgs, a pentium to a P3 is just fine with as little as 64MB Ram, that's what I'm sometimes using (P2 400mhz/128mb ram/2 gig HD) . However, to do some serious DVD/CD burning, PC gaming, video editing, you need heavy artillery. ;D

              Re: New computer setup...good deal?

              I run a p4 1.4 Ghz
              256 mb ram
              120 gb hard drive

I do all kinds of video editing, sound editing (adr & foley), music production, web design, and graphics... I need some more RAM but as far as speed goes, I'm pretty set, and the computer is 3 years old. Also, it's a dell... and those are quality computers.

                Re: New computer setup...good deal?

Thanks flick and other guys for the help! I don't have a computer now so I'm using a friends for the weekend :

The setup I posted has about 5 usb ports 2 in the back 3 in the front and it has the firewire. You are saying I can't recover with the custom setup?

I will go to futureshop today and see what they have. I think they have deals on HP and compaq. The prices look to be similar to what you said 700+.

                Thanks!
