  • Saved a pigeon!

been feeding this pigeon for a couple weeks, she had this like electrical wire caught around both her feet so she could move them properly and it was so tight it went into the flesh. We've been trying since we saw her to make a bond so we could help her. Today i opened my door and she was waiting on the doorstep where we always leave rice for her, and as soon as I opened she came closer and then came inside without hesitation, even before i had giving her more rice. We let her eat and chill for like 20 minutes, and then i grabbed her gently and she didnt even panic, and with the help of scissors and tweezers we were able to get the wire off and disinfect her with saline water, but like i said it had went into the flesh and she has a couple toes that were swolled and curled, i hope she wont have any long term damage and will be able to walk fine, but i feel super super happy that we helped!

Afterwards she ate some more and rested, sometimes trying to stretch out her leg, which i guess she hadnt been able to do for a while. Then she flew up onto the window sill, so i took her again, went to the door and opened it, and she walked onto the doorstep outside, turned around and sat there watching us for like 10-15 mins before finally flying away. Im sure she'll come eat tomorrow.

Oh and one of my techno idols just started following me, must be good karma, sweet!!!

Oh i know, she often comes with one that i think is her bf, and sometimes there's other, but lately it was mostly just her and once in a while her bf. But maybe now our prestige will go up and tomorrow i'll have a whole flock of pigeons, good thing i bought huge sacks of rice lately

The more the merrier! We also have about 6 cats that come eat here, good thing they come out at night though, because mixing those clienteles could be risky.

Very risky. As bad as "cats and dogs living together", to quote Bill Murray, from Ghostbusters

Gotcha. Animal kingdom documentaries. Always either looking for something to eat, or to be avoid being eating themselves. This is the way.

Cities use Peregin Falcons to keep the pigeon populations down. In the cities pigeons have few predators.

Ya nature can be cruel but nowhere as cruel as humankind

That's bs, i think all the animals in existence put together wouldn't be half as much a problem to our planet and to ourselves as we humans are, it's us that are overrunning the world, the 6th mass extinction isn't the fault of rats or mice or bunnies or no other non human species of our planet. China's population alone is way more detrimental to the well being of all living kind than all the "vermin" combined ever could be.

Yes I'm aware of that, i seen a documentary about Rome and the monuments and the pigeons and how it bothers ppl they poo on the staues so. So we hire animals to fix our problems, when maintenance on monuments could create some employment, or here in Montreal those city workers could stop pretending to fix pot holes and miss my recycling bin when its in plain site and could instead polish some statues. Especially since the pigeons we see in the streets aren't even actual wildlife, they're all descendants of domestic pigeons who were either lost or let go, true wild pigeons originally lived in the cliffs of Europe and the Mediterranean and what not, so once again humans shit on the world but get all out of sorts about some pigeon droppings. And pigeons on the street already have a tough enough life without us adding to it, when in fact we are responsible for any problems they create, having taken them from there native habitat to fight in our wars and to be our trusted messengers and to carry vital medications and to eat them, but now we dont need em so they're a nuisance?! Wtf Grrr 🤬

She's been coming to visit and eat with us everyday... she seems to be doing better but her foot is still...cant seem to uncurl her toes but she has been able to put a little weight on it lately. I'd like to get her looked at but im scared they'll just euthanize her, Bella is what we call her.

Thank you, bless yours too. But I honestly believe she's helped me just as much or more than I have her. And I think most people would have done the same given the chance, it's hard to see suffering and not do anything about it if your able to.

Ya know, I’ve recently come to realize just how stress relieving a pet can be for a person. If I’m having a bad day, it’s pretty amazing how happy my cat can make me, or how much he can calm me down. I imagine the pigeons does the same for you.
