That is not entirely true. You do get all past content, but many will limit past content to try and encourage you to not come in and out by sending lots in messages or even deleting content.

First, porn isnt free. with the exception of thrill seekers and amateurs, all the porn you see on these "free porn sites" are posted illegally(without copyright) and are either re-produced illegally or bought and paid for then posted by a subscriber. So the OP is correct in that, while it is technically free to watch, someone has paid for it in order for you to have that privilege.
Second, I was a content producer for many years back in the day and basically at that time, these pay porn sites were offered as a more discreet alternative to buying skin mages. Once the internet became capable of transferring larger files, you were able to offer up video clips to add to the value of the monthly sub, usually in the 10-14.99 per month range, and if done right they were very good money makers. But now, there is just too many high quality options for porn lovers out there and in addition to that, our attention span has tightened to the point of , it's been a few hours/days, im bored, whats next?
Thirdly, like many other "hospitality" business like bars and restaurants, many jump into this thinking that all they have to do is press record on their phones in a dimly lit room while playing with their BF's and suckers will throw money at them while they sleep.
