  • TransMission: Nikki's new Trans-focused column*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

    *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

The Agora Cosmopolitan is proud to launch a new column from Nikki S, our Transgender columnist.

TransMission: Broadcasts from Between the Lines is the unedited, unrestrained and individualistic perspective of this Toronto-born transsexual. Taking bits and pieces from her background in Political Science and Sexual Diversity Studies, Nikki combines academic knowledge and life experience to discuss the social, political and personal issues that affect the trans community on a daily basis.

A candid and unique view on gender differences and gender change, Nikki looks at aspects of her own trans identity that don't conform to expectations, while also examining the evolution of the "trans" category itself. Nikki's column promises to give everyone - trans or otherwise - a new perspective on sexuality, gender, and society in general.

Check out her column at http://www.agoracosmopolitan.com/transg ... exual.html, or go to http://www.tgirlnews.com and follow the links. If you want to contact Nikki, she can be reached by e-mail at [email protected].

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support. I'm so happy with the way the column turned out, and I'm really excited to continue updating it.

My next article will deal with the Ontario government's decision to relist SRS. I have a source in the Gender Identity clinic at CAMH that I've already spoken to, and another friend who is talking to George Smitherman tomorrow. Once I've got all the information together, I'll be able to do an analysis of the decision, the process, and what it will really mean for our community.

I've got my fingers crossed for a multiple-assessor model, where other places (such as the Sherbourne Health Centre, or possibly Mt. Sinai) can also recommend people for OHIP-funded SRS, but the jury's still out on that one. If CAMH remains the only resource, and chooses to maintain their 6-8 letter quota, then we're in deep trouble.

Either way, thanks for the kind words, and keep checking for new articles - hopefully, this baby's going to be running for a long time.

        ~Nikki

P.S. Did anyone else make it to the Goodhandy's 2-year anniversary last night? What a great party!
