    Congratulations Spain! Kudos to Torres.

So as many of you will now be aware, Spain just won the Euro 2008 Cup today defeating Germany 1-0 with Fernando Torres scoring the winning goal. Now forgive me for gloating but I have to quote myself from two earlier posts ten days ago:

"I'd like to see Spain vs Germany in the final..."

"Viva La Espa?a! Vaya Torres!" (Long Live Spain! Go Torres!).

    God I rule.

      Spain Rules !

I am thoroughly disgusted with the performance of the German Soccer team. In the game for all the glory they were inept ,listless, disorganized, and genuinely trounced throughout the match.
The German team didn't come close to the defensive/offensive style they had exhibited during the qualifying rounds.
The Spanish team quashed every major effort the German offensive attempted. There were precious few at that.

The Spaniards are the champions and deservedly so.

Riff raff gun carrying immigrants? Wow talk about a stereotype. I get worried when people talk about "true Canadians". Your post comes off as very neoconish and xenophobic, which I am sure it wasn't meant to be.

Over the course ofmy life as a Torontonian I have had a lot of interaction with new immigrants as friends, neighbours, employees, customers and suppliers. They have all been highly educated, extremely hard workers and honest. While all feel a kinship with their country of birth, all have been very proud to be Canadian.

My post wasn't meant to be anti-immigrant, just simply a slight correction of marketverse's numbers. Toronto is a wonderful city of rich diversity. Almost 1/2 our population is foreign born. There are a few bad eggs but so has every city, regardless of racial mix. I am willing to bet that Toronto has a lower crime & lower violent crime rate than other cities of the same size.

If you have ever lived outside Canada you would know that Canadians living abroad are fiercely patriotic. (If our immigrants were anything like that, some people would be up in arms). Canadian ex-pats are about as subtle about their patriotism as a dump trunk. We do push all things Canadian when we live abroad. In Europe we tried to open another hockey league, so did & do push hockey in Europe.

Soccer is the world's most popular game, it is especially popular in England where most white Canadians or their ancestors came from. It is hardly a minor sport. The world cup is the most watched sporting event ever.

Many of us Canadians grew up playing hockey and soccer. Soccer is gaining in popularity in Canada, kids teams have a Rep league which they didn't when I was a kid.

            Hi All,

I was in a German theatre in Rudolstadt watching the semi's and finals. Damn, those germans, they like there beer and foosball. Alot of the young kids were weeping like babies, and the older fans took in graciously. Was quite the experience i might say. Spain totally dominated them, they were lucky it wasnt 6-0.
