Isn't it funny how you can post a comment like that and not have to worry about a knock at your door 30 minutes later! As a proud Canadian may I say, "Don't let the door hit you on the ass etc etc..." The border is only 2 hours away, or 30 miles across the lake hun!!!!!
I am a proud Canadian. Remember we have room in Canada for all opinions even those we disagree with.
For the record, Canada never claimed to be a 100% capitalist country. We are a mixed economic system. We are far from communist, speak to anyone who grew up under communism and they will tell you that.
As a small c conservative I do enjoy/prefer some socialist systems in Canada like a public school system and universal health care. When Adam Smith talked about laissez faire policies I don't think he envision a global economy or global oligopolies.

Reason: spelling
" To the world you maybe just one person, but to one person you maybe the world ." "Never lie to someone who trusts you, and never trust someone who lies to you."
"Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it."
Canada is one of the best countries on earth.
But that doesn't mean there is not room for improvement.
But, our government is making an alliance right now the join Canada, Mexico and the US into a North American Union with a joint currency. Just like Europe.

I know nothing about finance other than what I see on my bank statement!
Do you see this as a beneficial or an unwise move on our part?
From what My European friends tell me. They say the cost of living basically went up 1.5x overnight.
Besides the high cost of living, not much else has changed I guess.
In the end, it's all about the people with power making sure they hang on to that power.
Canada has an abundance of Natural resources, greater than any other country in the world, which will become more valuable as time goes on. We are foolish if we think they will let us keep that.
It is a wise move because the alternative is to get invaded and get the shit blown out of us if we don't comply. Like Iraq.
Either we will have to share our wealth or go to war. I'd rather share the wealth.
The only crappy thing is how they are doing it without even discussing it with us. I guess it shows how important this issue is. They will not even tolerate any debate on this issue. It just has to be done.

I see this as typical xenophobic fear mongering by Lou Dobbs and his ilk. I'm not going to hold my breath on this one. However, I will continue to vote in every election and write to my MP's and MLA's and the Prime Minister with my concerns. American media panders to the lowest common denominator, "They are foreigners and everyone knows foreigners are bad" During these pieces they should have been playing some scary music from a zombie movie, it is the same feeling they are trying to convey....Watch out for the Red Coat Brits, Watch out for the Commies, Watch out for the terrorists (read: Muslims), Watch out for illegal immigrants (read: Mexicans), Watch out for home invasions and car jacking (read:Blacks), Watch out for [add your fear here]. I moved away from the US because of this shit. I love Americans but damn they are ruled by fear, not democracy.
I agree, snoodle, there is room for improvement in Canada. I think we need to get leaders with a bit of balls to stand up for what is best for Canada and not take a position based on Ameriaphobia or Americaphilia that plays well on CBC.
*damn it capitus, don't talk politics or religion, it always ends in bloodshed, you should know better*
Well if you are worried about us joining US and Mexico, I won't tell you about South America being included in that.
The European Union has combined economic power that even the 3 North American countries together cannot compete with. There is a good chance South America would eventually join our union.
On that note Spanish is the second language everyone should be learning, french will only be good if you want to work in Quebec or for the canadian government. Although I think support for french is even slipping in Quebec. English is becoming the defacto business language around the world, French isn't even on the map for that.
Anyway, we do have plenty of resources but cannot compete on our own.
We do not have the population or the Secondary processing capacity.
The US does most of the secondary processing of our natural resources so they are a natural partner (not to mention they are located right next door)
For example, Canada has the most Uranium in the world yet we do not enrich any of it here.
Just the way big companies merge to compete, the same is happening with countries.
If we don't join into such a union we will probably find ourselves taken over by China. Not by force but just by pure numbers, look around you....
China currently operates about 6000 businesses in Canada that do nothing other than spy on us and find ways to get a foothold here.

I am afraid that they are already spying on us here this Forum.
