    Alyssa,
We have been trying to get together for the longest time... You have to stop in Montreal before you head out west
    OR
we have to meet in Toronto at the end of the month!

Either way, we have to get together!

Alyssa; This is not a travel site I know, but if you are going to drive from Edmonton to Vancouver may I suggest that rather than backtracking South to Calgary, you take the Yellowhead Hwy, (#16 I think) West to Jasper. When there take a cable car ride to the top of the mountain and look down on the townsite. You may be up in the clouds and think you're flying, the town looks so small.

Driving South from Jasper to Banff is a really great drive, and if the big glacier is still there (what with global warming it may have melted since I was there) it is worth a look. There are also many beautiful emerald green and blue lakes on that hwy., lots of wildlife too, esp. mountain goats and sheep. From Banff you'll hit the TransCanada and come across many more truly beautiful sights like Rogers Pass and into Vancouver.

If you have not yet driven through the Rockies you'll be blown away by the spectacular scenery. Plan to take your time, make sure you stop as often as you can, to acknowledge the splendor and magnificence of the mountains, the colorful lakes and enjoy the smells of the mountain-side. Truly breathtaking! I bet you'll be awestruck!

If it is your first time driving across Canada, remember there is a huge void between sudbury and Winnipeg. It is a 2 lane highway that is 90kmh all the way. It can take 16 or more hours of driving, speed limits are heavily enforced. Do not drive at night in that area since the wildlife is crazy and moose are all over the road at night. Stay in Thunder bay or something it is about half way. Stop at Kekabeka falls when there, you will see it.

The best way to go to Winnipeg is thru the states for speed.
If you go the north route, take a fishing rod, you will see what i mean.

I drove to Toronto and back to Edmonton last month. One thing that I found is that Winnipeg seems to be almost void of hotels. We ended up sleeping in the van which really sucked. I asked a guy in the Petro-Can why there were so few motels/hotels in Winnepeg. He said with a straight face that people usually just pass through and don't stay. Never going to that shit-ass city again! Edmonton however ... has tons of hotels, Alyssa honey

Craig is right on! Lots of moose kills north of Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay, so keep close watch for them on the sides of the road and in the ditches even thru' the day. Bears may even saunter across the road in front of you. That highway will give you a taste of mountain highway driving too with grades and curves but also some beautiful scenery.

On leaving Winnipeg, after the first half hour the scene will be unchanging for about 16 hours, so put it on cruise, put your feet up on the dash and have a nap.
