At first I didn't think it was necessary to correct Lisa's repeated note about the door person being lazy or an idiot, however she worded it, and not coming to see me. But since you continue to go on and on about this one particular detail, I will correct it so it can rest: he DID come to see me, and reported his feeling on the matter, and as I said in my first response on this thread, I do not over-ride the instinct of my security staff. Even if I had made the choice on a previous day to let an individual enter the club, we have a unified policy amongst our staff to follow each other's leads.

Barbie came in on Saturday with her ID, and she assured me that she had no problem with being carded and not let in on Thursday, she brought her ID this time, and plus as I said, and she agreed, she ended up getting to see Pamela Anderson which meant her night was not ruined. And she's right - it's got to always be flattering to be carded - I'm about to turn 35, if someone carded me, I'd thank them!

So Lisa, just wanted you to know, you can stop criticizing my staff, he did come to me, and I told him that I would not over-ride his decision to not let in Barbie with no ID. You must understand: it is totally irrelevant if I KNOW she is of age, to an inspector. I have spoken with another club owner who was charged (and the charge stuck) for this exact situation: a regular customer came in, age 26. All the staff had seen his ID numerous times. They did not verify that he had it on him again. The inspector came in. The inspector carded the 26 year old. The bar got a ticket and a short liquor license suspension. Even when the club staff argued that this guy was a regular, and that he was willing to walk to his apartment nearby and return with ID, they still charged them. Granted, that is a pretty asshole-ish inspector, but it happened.

So how do you think I would have felt, if I had told the security staff that "Yes, I know that Barbie has been around the scene long enough that she is probably at least 23 or older" and then an inspector chose that day to come in, and he would have lost his security license.

The other point I want to make is about the bathrooms. As we have been open for 3.5 years now, the operation of a sex club is somewhat experimental. We have different rules for different days. The Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are more about discretion, and about consenting adults becoming members of a members-only club, and going in couples to a private booth, and conducting whatever actions they wish to do, as members of a private club, in a private booth.

At our "I Love Sex Parties" it's about fun, it's about sex, it's about sex everywhere in the club that you want it to be as long as it's not bothering anyone. I have no problem with people having sex in the bathroom at that particular party. It's part of the culture of the night.

I realize that in the past we may have been more guarded about things, but as we continue to explore and research and establish precedents, I just wanted to make sure people reading this didn't get the wrong idea and think that during a sex party (and NOT on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays) they could have fun in a bathroom stall if that makes them happy.

And final thing I want to correct in this thread - wellhungone made a minor reference suggesting that the authorities might be looking for things to shut us down. I understand how you might think that - and I appreciate your continued support - but I do want to reassure people, so far, the authorities have been nothing but supportive of the club. The very rare times we have had to phone them for assistance with minor things (like removing a homeless person who refused to leave, etc) they have been very friendly, they have been gender sensitive, and they have even walked in during sex acts and not even flinched. I am very impressed with the forward-thinking of the downtown cops, and they have not been harassing us or bothering us. That still does not mean we should be lax in our security procedures, I just wanted to share a positive thought with this community - so far, so good, and kudos to Toronto for being respectful to a minority community inside our club who is trying to just have some fun in a safe place.

Thanks to everyone who continually promotes our club on here, it is much appreciated, and hopefully I have clarified things for Lisa and others.

I guarantee that just because someone has been going to a club for a long time, doesn't mean they are of age.
You can never assume these things when u run a licensed business.


When i managed nightclubs all people that looked under 25 got ID'd.
If someone obviously was in their 30's or more and was with someone younger looking, they both got cracked.

Right now in Calgary, no one can get into a bar without ID, period.
Even if you look 80 you won't get in.
Danika had trouble when we went out in Calgary because the bars won't take health cards as ID.
Todd would like it there perhaps.
