Why was it scary because of the overused quick cuts, and screams? Bah...I feel like an old man wanting to tell kids about the good ol days of horror movies

I am intrigued by Martyrs though(even after the parody haha).
Although two of my favorite films, I must agree with you.
They are not "classics" nor is any of Eli's movies. Even Cabin Fever is a forgettable film. (as much as I liked it)
A horror classic always strikes fear first. When my mother saw the Exorcist, she went to a theater in Seattle.
She now has PTSS for the rest of her life.
    Horror classics are rare.
Martyrs is one of them but can never hold solid ground here in the U.S.
The Human Centipede is "fucking garbage".

Cabin Fever was decent. I really liked the premise, even though there were a few questions after watching it, but did you ever watch the sequal to Cabin Fever that was straight to dvd a few weeks ago? Ugggh was that bad

            Lame movie.
Faeces doesn't hold enough nutritional value to sustain a life.

Which is why it's called "waste".

I think this movie may be a close to "real" horror as you can get while still on a supernatural level. The whole concept of, "Nature is Satan's church", rings true.
It's two adults with real life problems trying to consolidate this matter in a place of utter evil. (Inside them)

lol ... well it did happen, sort of. The movie and the "Leatherface" character was based on Ed Gein:

                        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Gein

In fact so was Psycho's Norman Bates character.

So ... what happened was true ...

Yea leatherface & norman bates were both based on
ed gein but i would say the 1 most fitting was deffinately
                            norman bates.

I watched a doc on gein & he was incredibly sick & obviously highly insane

Ed Gein was partially the inspiration for Jame Gumb (aka Buffalo Bill) in "The Silence of the Lambs" as well. His crimes were so bizarre and gruesome, they inspired so many horror movie villians.
