I wonder when the first true TS stars emerged? 1980’s? who were the first big stars?

My guess would be late 70's early 80's Sulka being one of the very first and from what here she still lives in West Hollywood.
Also in the late 70's early 80's there was a Post Op Transgender lass that appeared in mainstream porn under the name of Jill Munroe (R.I.P.) also she was once married to one time porn stud Marc 10 1/2" Stevens (R.I.P.) and when Rod Stewart was visiting New York City he would pay her a visit.She died of a heroine overdose and was found in her New York City apartment in August of 1982.
In 1996 I met Cassandra Del Rio and we kind of became friends.

I don't know anything about the North American scene in those days. In Europe I think Romy Haag became very famous as a transsexual entertainer in the late 60's and 70's. A Dutch girl, she became a cabaret artist in Paris in the 60's and acquired a degree of fame. In fact I saw a (very demure) picture of her when I was 12 or 13 and immediately knew that was my primary attraction. In the 70's she relocated to Berlin where she became involved with the underground scene and had love affairs with David Bowie and Mick Jagger. She acquired her own establishment and carved out a minor career for herself as a recording artist, singing maudlin love songs in french or accented english. She was never a porn star but she was drop dead gorgeous, all pouting lips and waist length curly red hair. A real trail blazer!
