I do not like the term shemale. When somebody online asks me if I'm a shemale it takes me a while to respond, lol. Most times I'll just say "I'm a transsexual, yes." But other than that, I love the word tranny. I talk to a lot of straight straight guys and nobody knows what a tgirl is. Everybody knows what a tranny is though, well atleast everyone has an idea. And I am not at all offended by the term tranny, i love saying it. It has a fierce ring to it. Tranny Tranny Tranny TRANNEH! lol

When I first got introduced to the trans world, I did a fair amount of research and came up with a fairly stable definition for the terms that fit in most situations:
TO BE VERY CLEAR, THESE ARE NOT ALL ENCOMPASSING DEFINITIONS, These are my opinion based on research and discussion. If you offend easily, please stop reading NOW!
CD = crossdresser, someone who dresses as a member of the opposite sex for sexual purposes (eg: a fetish or a kink)

TV = Transvestite, someone who dresses as a member of the opposite sex for normal life purposes (either full time or part time) often without the use or plan of using hormones to transition to the opposite gender. Culturally Tranny started as a short form for this. (eg. Rocky Horror Picture Show, Anthony Stewart Head did a Transvestite album as well)

TS = Transsexual, someone who is on or who plans to take hormones to transition to the opposite gender or who has already transitioned
TG = Transgender, more of a broad encompassing term which pretty much includes TV, TS, shemale, tranny, tgirl and is essentially someone who is changing their gender.
GG = Genetic Girl, um, self explanatory....

Shemale = a specific set of transgender/transsexuals who self identify as shemale. Common charactaristics are female body with a functional male genital.
tgirl = see transgender, self identifying term.
Tranny = see above, self identifying term used by TV and TS and TG.

Trap = a term used in certain areas of the internet to refer to a person who appears to be a GG then when clothes are removed has a cock. Embraced by TG who frequent those areas of the internet, not widely used beyond those areas, even by people who frequent those areas. (only included because it was just mentioned in another thread, my first time seeing it outside of the chans!) Is a very broad term potentially covering everything above. The only term that is applied by society onto people. Also embraced by those same people.
Reverse Trap = same as above except appears to be a genetic male and has a pussy instead. These 2 terms should not be taken seriously by the trans community.

I find that these are the most common definitions. Theres always going to be someone who takes offense at being called a shemale, or a tranny or a tgirl or all 3.
Some girls will identify as a crossdresser when according to above they may fall under TV or TS. Others will identify as TS and actually be a CD as defined above. I'm not saying these people aren't what they say they are. People self identify with what they want. Noone should take offense at what another person identifies themselves as. When meeting new people who fall into the above categories I let them identify themselves first then will strive to use that term or a more encompassing term when talking to them. I've found very few people take offense at Tgirl (or tguy) as a broader term. Thinking about it, I only know of one person who took offense at being called a tgirl.
Last edited by Canadiankrahe; 04-03-2011, 02:03 AM. Reason: included trap/reverse trap for completeness sake!

                      What about young children?

                      Hi Canadiankrahe,

Nice list, it seems pretty accurate.

However, i was just wondering what most people (guys) would consider a small child to be, say 4 or 5 years old. You know, born a genetic male" but believes "he" is really a she, and argues with family members about how "he" feels when told "he" is a boy and not a girl?

                      Thanks,
                      Babe,
                      xoxo

Most guys or me? or society as a whole? or the kids classmates?

From my experience working in and with a childcare environment I would say it's a normal part of growing up. Not all kids go through that phase, but some do. Some come out of it normal, for others its not a phase, they've just realised something was wrong early in life.

TBH it depends on the guy, macho men (like my bro-in-law) would be offended if his genetic son said that they were a girl. Others, would accept it and move on from there.

As far as the kids classmates are concerned, there is a very real possibility of the kid getting harassed all through school, but that entirely depends on the personality of the kid and of the peers. Similar to someone coming out as gay, it all depends on how it's received and who the person is.

                            Hi Canadiankrahe,

Thanks for your response to my question. However, i'm sorry to say that i, personally, don't think it addressed my question very well.

                            I didn't ask if it's normal behavior.

I asked only one question. There is only one question mark, there.

However, speaking ONLY of your brother-in-law, seeing as you brought him up. Would he call his "son" a queer, or a transsexual, if his child began expressing ”him”self as a girl, and wanted to be treated as a girl?

I didn't ask how the kids are treated in school by their peers, nor did i ask how their parents would behave if a child expressed that they felt transgendered. I, also, didn't ask whether parents would accept it or not.

How about most guys that you know or know of, including yourself? How would they - and you - or any of the other guys in the forums who are reading this post consider a small child showing definite urges to be a girl – i am not talking about just a mere “phase” the child might be going through.

I am talking about the young child who does not take hormones, and who has no idea about surgeries or transitioning, but still demands to be called a girl and to treated like a girl.

I know you can't answer for ALL men and i didn't ask you to do that.
The question asked was directed at all guys, but asked in a post that was in response to your list.

I am sorry if you thought i had asked you to be the spokesman for all of the men in the this forums and in society, as well. You could answer for other guys based on what your friends might have said over a beer or two or whatever.

I know of some very ignorant people who would say that a kid like that should be locked up in a mental hospital to get Electro Shock Therapy, or put down like a sick dog.

Are they TVs, CDs, TSs, sexual deviants or…? What?

                            Thanks ,
                            Babe,
                            xoxo
