48 games is not a season .... its a joke. I dont care that hockey is back after all that went down. The main reason that an agreement was made and this is a point that was not supposed to be leaked was that if both sides didnt come to an agreement and canceled the season it wouldve been suicide for the league, quite possibly the end of the NHL. Part of me wants to be happy but I hold too much animosity towards both parties.
I could just imagine if there was no NHL....players would have to find work elsewhere and most likely for less $$$, that is of course if they could find work and as for the owners, sponsors, agents.....oooooh, they dont get that regular cash flow.
Fuck it. Whoever wins the scoring title, rookie of the year, Stanley Cup etc etc are not true winners rather a shadow of a winner.
Well, decades ago, a hockey season was 50 games. Remember the great Maurice Richard? 50 goals in 50 games (the full length of the 1944-1945 season).
GO HABS GO!

As a Habs fan, I am totally aware of Richard's 50 goals in a 50 game season...BUT in 81-82 Wayne Gretzky scored 92 goals in an 80 game season.
The nhl and the nhlpa agreed to a bunch of bullshit that basically means NOTHING to the regular fan. They were arguing over money. I don't care what the argument was from either side...THEY ARE A BUNCH OF GREEDY BASTARDS. The players do not play for the love of the game, and most owners could care less about the fans. Last time they cancelled the season I promised myself I would never pay to step foot in an NHL arena ever again. Games on TV are fine with me. More people should do the same and remind BOTH the owners and the players who pays the fucking bills.
That said...another year...another pool? Who's in?

PERSONALLY, I LOVE HOCKEY. I LOVE WATCHING IT AND PLAYING IT. I LOVE WATCHING (and making) A PERFECT PASS, DEAK, SHOT, HIT, GOAL. (Fights got boring). ONCE YOU REALLY KNOW THIS SPORT, NO OTHER SPORT COMPARES.
Personally I choose not to acknowledge the business side of this sport. If it is on, I'm there.
The politics only pisses me off and it does remind me that to these people it is a business. But in the end, I love the game so I will always watch. I'm not the fan that puts money in their pockets.
It's kind of like movies, do I think Tom Cruise is a nut job with his so called "religion". Absolutely. Do I enjoy his movies, you bet I do. Nothing keeps me away from my entertainment.
And Brian Burke was let go today. I imagine it won't change much, but I thought he was an ass.
The Leafs normally have a really good first half of the season. Considering this is only a half season, WE HAVE A CHANCE. LOL
Or they suck after January....you know...when it counts.
Damn, I forgot that part of it. LOL
I was actually looking at their potential lines and prospects in the AHL and you know what, they have a pretty deep pool this year.
If they can wake up and get rid of (or bench) Komisarik, and trade Kadri (hate to say it but they've ruined him.) He'll do really well with another team that doesn't pride themselves on ruining the confidence of their first round picks. Just my opinion. Thank God they got rid of Luke Schenn. Another potentially good defenceman the Leafs ruined. LOL. Sorry starting to rant.
Of course it all really depends on goaltending. And they need a real first line center.
Truth of the matter is, we really only have to do better than the Habs. Then I am a happy man.

Do you really want me to start on this? Okay...here we go. You trade away your 1st round picks, which I haven't figured out yet if that is a good thing or bad thing. Because your asset management is HORRIBLE. You keep garbage and trade away anything decent (Rask, Boyles, Courtnall, Damphousse, etc) or the pick itself (Loungo, Seguin, Hamilton, Neidermayer, Kasparitis, Etc). There are 6 positions in hockey where the pressure is INSANE. Coach, GM, and starting goalie for the Leafs and Habs. You need a strong man at all these places. Weak GM's like Ferguson and Houle hurt both organizations. The Habs have been blessed with some of hockey's greatest goalie's...Roy, Plante, Dryden, have made sure we were strong on the ice. But you think people in this city were not asking questions when Dionne was outscoring Lafleur early on? Pollock stuck with Lafleur. Burke has built great teams in Vancouver and Anaheim, yet he leaves Toronto worse off than he found it.
As for your prospect pool...upper 3rd tier low 2nd tier prospect pool. You have nothing in the minors presently better than anything in the NHL. Moreover, everything in the minors is at best a replacement fr your NHL players, filling in the same roles. Seguin and Hamilton are in Boston remember? You burned 2 top 10 picks. Both are projected to be NHL All-Stars.
As for the Schenn trade, understand that JVR isn't presently much better than what you gave up. But Burke has a hardon for big American players As for Kadri...listen to your own words and stopping giving up on your picks. NO ONE from that draft year is producing yet minus the top guys picked and a select few. By your reasoning Hedman should be moved by TB as he is not yet living up to his potential. Patience is the key.
BTW: Doing better than the Habs and missing the playoffs...seems like we win on draft day. Big difference between Habs and Leafs fans. You are happy when you beat us. We are happy with a Cup...Nothing else.

You have a lot of Leaf anger. LOL. Kind of obvious our Juniors and AHL plays are not better than our NHL players. It's why they are not in the NHL. The only thing the habs have done right recently is trade us Komisarik. Keeping Suban will be good too. But I've never seen a fan base that turns on their team and players, only to take it back if they have one good season. Oh how you turned on poor Carey. And how they treat visiting teams in their house, an absolute embarrassment. Most people that hate the Habs is because of the maturity of their fan base. The few games they win at home, do they really have to sing a song in an attempt to embarrass them. Only embarrassing the real hockey fan as far as i am concerned. Can't agree more with you about us giving up on potential. We don't just give up, we suck the confidence out of them. Schenn & Kadri were both never what they thought. I don't even care who we got for Schenn. i don't have to watch him screw up anymore. Or announcers justifying his errors. Neither of these guys should have been top picks. You've misunderstood me, I'm only a Leafs fan because i am here. I love hockey, and if played well, I can appreciate it from any team or player. I absolutely loved what the Kings did last year. Saw them in the first round and warned everyone they'd make the finals. Everything came together. I hope we don't have to argue too long about this. You know that comparison about arguing on the Internet, and nobody really caring about who wins.

At least with a shorten season, the pain of the Leafs fans will also be short.

Bein' American I, well, can't really get into hockey....
It isn't that popular down here. Except for a handful of places... like New York, Chicago etc., etc.
Anyway, sports is a welcome relief from the craziness of the whirling world....

One thing that always fascinates me about Americans (not personal to your Mike) half the country seems to still hold onto some form of racism, but they love watching basketball and football, which is 95% .......
I have no idea why they don't love hockey. LOL. Maybe it's like me and Rugby, looks rugged but I just don't understand the game. LOL
As far as the NHL, most teams looking pretty shaky in the goaltending area. The timing for passing and shooting is really off too. (Can Kessel score this year?) The Leafs best players are 2 new guys, (well new to starting with the team) Kadri (YES I SAID IT) and Kostka. Where the hell did he come from. As far as all the other new guys, sorry, I would have kept Connolly in the plan. At least he can make a play.
Teams to watch out for: Anaheim, Chicago and Boston. (I hate Boston)
