The players actually voted against the last realignment for some reason. It may have been the way the GM's proposed it.

Please do the rest of the NHL a favor and STOP trading with the Bruins. Meaning that if you guys don't get ripped off in the Loungo trade, DO NOT TRADE FOR TIM THOMAS.
Tim Thomas would be the goalie the Leafs get. I think he's about 40 and nearing the end of his career ( if he comes back) so he would follow a long line of similar players to find themselves putting on the Leafs uniform.

The one that sticks out in my mind is trading Rask and keeping that Pogge or whatever his name was. Didn't they keep him because he was from Toronto?

Yeah...Pogge was Canadian, not sure if from Toronto. The Leafs had the 2 top goalies in the WJC that year and decided to stick with the Canadian, and trade away the goalie of the tournament for Raycroft..Great Job!

Tim Thomas is taking this year off, and would be a mistake....dressing room cancer.

Yes they did and because Pogge had an excellent performance at the WJC. Kessel is the one that kills me. You could have just signed him when he was RFA. Boston couldn't match as it would have put them over the cap. If you had signed him it would have cost you a 1st and a 2nd. But Burke is so against RFA signings since the Penner situation, that he traded an extra 1st (Dougie Hamilton) for no reason. But still...who the fuck trades two 1st round picks when you are rebuilding?

Great GM's find a way to use the rules to their advantage (Pollock getting Lafleur). I have no idea what Burke was thinking...at least you won the Phaneuf trade.

Burke wasn't thinking about rebuilding, he was thinking about the playoffs.

But no worries, Wayne Gretzky will be running the team soon lol.

Wayne did a pretty good job with the Coyotes...Trust me on this one. Wayne was a great player, but a crappy exec. See Coach and Owner Phoenix.

Sorry...nothing else to say really. Bad signings (Komisarek, Finger)+ bad trades (Rask, Versteeg) + Bad Management (Kessel) = Bad Team.....

But wait...you would think the trend would stop? You know Anaheim's goalie prospect John Gibson? The kid the backstopped the USA to Gold at the WJC? Check this out:

To Toronto: 2011 1st (Tyler Biggs)
To Anaheim" 2011 1st (Rickard Rakell) and 2011 2nd ohn Gibson)

                True story....

And look we had the lead again. This may be one very long short season.
At least Kessel won't have to worry about getting picked last in the All Star game. If there was one he would not even make it. He is sucking bad.

The problem with Kessel is that he is very streaky and he needs other players around him for him to produce.

Personally, I don't believe Kessel is a good fit in Toronto (Streaky, doesn't hit, no heart). I honestly think that you should trade him and get assets for him. You could get a decent return for him, especially in a shortened season. By the time you have the pieces in place, Kessel will be in his 30s.

The only parts of your team that I would not move.... JVR, Colbourne, Kadri. Reilly. Right there I have 1/2 your top 6 forwards and 1 top pairing defenseman. I could fill out the rest moving other players for youth and draft picks. Edmonton threw their prospects into the lineup. These young kids should play....they can't do much worse than the vets.

You certainly aren't keeping much. Damn you hate the Leafs. LOL. What would you keep on the Habs? Price? Unfortunately with the cap, slowly trading an entire team only gets you a similar depth level. We've kind of proven that. We traded the whole team already. LOL. I still think JVR and Kadri are over rated. We'll see. Once the fitness level of other teams comes up, I think Kadri will once again fade away. Start making those bad passes again. JVR just might surprise me.

Every time I give up on Kessel, he turns around and surprises me. Here's hoping he does again. I think all natural goal scorers are streaky. Otherwise they'd all have 80 goals a year. It's funny, even playing in decent caliber beer leagues, those goals can be tough to get sometimes. I always said, hockey is all about confidence. Talent is one thing, being confident really brings out that talent. You start doubting yourself and you're screwed. Hence the Leafs for the past years. The coach and GM were confidence killers.

Shyla you certainly know a lot more than I do about the ins and outs of each team. You know a lot about the leafs for sure. What would your overview be of why Montreal is having so many challenges these past years?

Tell you what, I'll trade you Komisarik back for Kaberle?

Oh, and who are your top 4 teams to win the cup. I predict a surprise this year, with it being a short season, something odd will happen.

The problem is not that I hate the Leafs. The problem is that your city overvalues your players. Proof is Kessel as he was picked last at the NHL All-Star game by his PEERS! The reason is that I would only keep that is simple. Look at the on ice product. Besides those 4 players there is very little high end talent in your minor league system. Most players are scheduled to be 3rd liners at best or defensemen number 4-6. That is exactly what you have now on ice. If you are not patient with those 4 players then you have nothing in the future. Boston raped you badly with those two 1st's.

If it wasn't for the Sundin trade, the 90s would have been very hard years in Toronto.

Challenges? Two years ago we took the Stanley Cup Champions to 7 games, three years ago we went to the conference finals, five years ago we finished 1st in the East? WTF are you talking about? We missed the playoffs last year because Markov and Gionta missed 75% of the season. You try to win without you number 1 defenseman and captain. Our PP last year was horrible but previously it was deadly.

If by challenges you mean not winning the Cup every couple of years, then shit happens. We drafted badly in the 90s and traded away everything. You really want to know why we don't win...Patrick Roy cursed us. The ghosts left the forum and never returned after that night. We have booed every player that has every put on the jersey. We insulted the Hockey Gods. We are a spoiled hockey city, spoiled with championship, team records and dynasties. Yet we booed, Richard, Beliveau, Roy, Koivu and everyone in between and since.

Who would I keep? Price, Subban, Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, Beaulieu. There are other players with good potential in the Habs system, but most can be replaced. Guys like Colberg, Hudon, Tinordi, Ellis have are good with upside but can be replaced.

Guys like Cole, Gionta, Bourque, and others are players be replaced by these kids. If they don't fill roles, then that is what Free Agency is for.

Habs GM Marc Bergevin laughs and hangs up the phone. Basically we are buying out either Kaberle or Bourque...whoever sucks more.

Right now? Boston, Rangers, St. Louis, Pens....I have this funny feeling about San Jose this year. They always seem to run out of steam (Mainly because Joe Thornton is heartless) but I have a feeling they could do well in a shortened season.

I think I only hate the Flyers and Bruins more.

Didn't I provide you with streaming video? And this is the thanks I get? So....

Why doesn't Hamilton have a NHL team?
Because Toronto would want one too!

How many Leafs fans does it take to change a lightbulb?
Four. One to change it and three to talk about how good the old one was.

There is a competition and a Sens, Oilers, Leafs and Habs fan are performing feats in an effort to see who is geatest. Finally the 4 find themselves climbing a mountain. When they reach the top, the Sens fan looks at the others and say "For the greater good of the Senators I do this." and throws himself from the mountain. The Oiler fans climbs higher and look at the other two and says "For the greater good of the Oilers I do this" and he throws himself from the mountain. The Hab and Leaf fan both approach the edge when the Hab fan cries out, "For the greater good of everyone I do this" and he throws the Leaf's fan off the cliff."

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?
They both look good until they hit the ice!

What does a recent high school dropout and the Toronto Maple Leafs have in common?
They?re both young, have no goals and no good prospects.

What do a fine wine and the Toronto Maple Leafs have in common?
They both spend a lot of time in the cellar, cost too much and are only enjoyed on select occasions.

Why is the Hockey Hall Of Fame in Toronto?
It's the only way Leafs fans can get to see the Stanley Cup!

What is the difference between a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and a pot hole?
I would swerve to avoid the pot hole!

In a previous post you said you only care about winning a cup. Now taking a team to 7 games in what was that, the first round, is an amazing accomplishment? I guess making the playoffs is good enough now. LOL.

The amazing thing is, you know every Leafs player, coach, gm there ever was. Of all the Habs players you mentioned, I knew 3. LOL. Closet leafs fan for sure.

Please take this light hearted, I'm just having fun, you know WAY more about the NHL than I ever will.

We agree on so much. Boston and Philly. Hate them more than the Habs. I am liking Anaheim this year and Chicago is looking strong. San Jose, you got it right. Their leader choking and having no heart sucks.

Oh and Matt Sundin was a good player, but when he shafted us when he could have been traded for a lot, but decided to stay and fuck us by leaving for nothing the next year? Lost my respect right there. No class. But Leaf fans have short memories. We have to.LOL

No it's not, but it's better than missing the playoffs the last 7 years.

Him and Pierre Turgeon. Soon I'm going to add Ovechkin to that list.

Hold your horses here. Sundin is the greatest player ever to put on a Leafs jersey and this is how you treat him. Sundin had a NO TRADE AGREEMENT in his contract. Players request this and usually have to take less money. Sundin was paid to play hockey for your team during the time he was signed. He doesn't have to Okay a trade. The Leafs got themselves into a lot of trouble with those NTA during that time. Berard, Domi, Tucker and others all had no movement agreements which screwed over any trades.
