  • Would you say this is Discrimination?

Today arriving in Calgary I encountered a very interesting situation checking into my hotel. Upon arriving at my hotel, I was asked for my last name. They did not ask me for ID, nor did they ask me for my credit card(s). A few seconds later (I doubt she even checked the computer) she responded to me that the hotel was completely booked. I found this weird as my room was bought off expedia and was prepaid. I quickly checked on my Iphone to see if there were any other hotels available in Calgary. To my amazement, the hotel that just told me that my room was unavailable...was available. I found this interesting. I called Expedia to rebook with another hotel, and they told me that my hotel was available and I responded telling them that I had received completely different information for the reception.

I returned inside and explained that I have multiple major Credit Cards, that I'm an Expedia VIP(I spend over 10 grand a year with them) and if it's an issue of security, they are more than welcome to take a larger security deposit. I told them that rooms were available online. I was told that even if I booked these rooms that the hotel was booked and checkin would be impossible for me. Expedia explained that this was impossible due to the fact that they buy these rooms from the hotel and resell them. Hence they cannot give my room to someone else.

Here is where it gets better. I call Expedia back to change hotels and the guy at Expedia calls the hotel because of cancelation fees that the hotel normally charges. I explained that this should not be an issue as they were the ones that denied me use of their hotel. The Expedia clerk returned only to advise me that they were going to charge me the cancelation fees. WHAT?!?! After explained to the Expedia dude that I didn't cancel...they did. If anything, I should charge them cancelation fees.

After a long fight with Expedia(Including me threatening to cancel the reminder of my Tour with then and book with the competition), they offered me credits to compensate for the theft the hotel pulled off. I explained to Expedia that there is nothing stopping the hotel from robbing anyone.

Serious, I travel with designer luggage, multiple credit cards, and I'm a VIP Expedia Member. I never show up at a hotel looking like some bum off the streets.

In Calgary they discriminate against all Transsexual guest and assume they are Escorts.
It is actually not legal to operate from a hotel room as an escort, so hotels just do this there.
There just isn't alot of TS in Alberta really.

You can say it's discrimination but, 84% of TS staying specifically at that hotel are escorts.
So it is not really discrimination because most of you are escorts, plain and simple.
Second I know that hotel has kicked out many many escorts, the police fully support it.
The hotel has full rights to refuse you lodging unfortunately.

As I have said many times I rarely use Expedia, travelocity or hotels.com
If you call them it is all the same call center in Canada for all three websites.
Occasionally I use Hotwire.com in Toronto but that is it.
The only thing I can say about them is they will give you a refund eventually.
However you have to yell at them for 2 days or so, not worth it.

Those travel sites are not the cheapest, even though the packages seem cheap.
I only deal with the hotels, airlines and car companies direct.
You get the best deals this way, plain and simple.
You get the best rooms, cars and flights plus mega upgrades and extras.
Some hotel chains would never do this to you.
Phoning them directly or using their websites gets the best pricing.

Sorry to hear this, I could have told you not to stay at that shithole.
    Unfortunately they discriminate against escorts.

        Escorts? Oh really?

Unfortunately for them, assumption is the mother of all fuck ups. If any one claims that I'm an escort...I have papers proving that I am doing card readings....all registered under my Quebec Inc.

I think I'll just pass this to my lawyer and let her harass them.

The last year the Quality Hotel messed with me in Ottawa, I got an apology and an out of court settlement.

            Yes, Assumptions are dangerous.

              Seriously tho.......
Why bust their balls when you are doing exactly what they think you are.
There is plenty of other places you could have picked, as I say.

The only valuable time wasted is yours.
I think you are making a bad name for TS because you are escorting and they have full rights to refuse you on that grounds.
You are not suing or threatening on honest grounds!
I could tell you a dozen hotels you could have stayed there and not had this problem.

Why look for trouble like this?

A few years ago there was an episode on the forum with some TS escorts fighting in the International Hotel Calgary.
The police were called, charges were laid, i just can't remember who it was.
There was a big long fighting thread here about it.
So I don't suppose they are going to let many escorts in there, especially trannies, who are easier to pick out unfortunately.

I have been out to "The Bar" in Calgary. The number of resident TS in Calgary that are not escorts is very few.
In fact, when i started Shemale Canada there was no working TS escorts in Calgary that i had heard of.

There is another suite hotel in downtown Calgary that is not good to try to stay at anymore.
Word is one of the hotels has a manager that knows all the TS escorts too.

You have to go low key in Cow town.
Yer not a cowboy or an indian or a filipino replacement employee, so they don't like you right away.
Try Mcleod trail south, Aiport area that sort of thing.

                      Welcome to the "New West"
Ever since Calgary blew up in the 80's escorts have been going there for fame and fortune.
As a result the Sheriff is strict and the hotels are not lookin' for any trouble.
That was when the real money was there, now is just the end of the cycle.

However I think that Hotel has kicked out Rock Stars.
Cannot remember who, but they don't take no guff there at that Inn.

Calgary has bars like Cowboys, Desparados and Ranchmen's etc.
There has been knives, guns and all sorts of shit at these places.
Not to mention people drink alot there, and there seems to be lots of public drunkedness often.
Stampede is just a all out piss fest.
Calgary can be rough in the vice world.

                        Not necessarily discrimination!

Not necessarily discrimination. Some hotels are not providers (ggs/tg)s friendly and some are!

Are you sure thats correct that its actually illegal for an escort to rent a hotel room If so, that law needs to be re-written because that in itself is discrimination. It should be the other way around, it should be ILLEGAL when they don't allow an escort or transgender to rent a hotel room just because shes an escort or transgender. This is like the days of the kkk where they didnt allow a certain race to rent a room. The days of over powered and over controlling society members infringing on other's rights are over due to the mighty internet where they can be reported and exposed. The moment a transgender or escort rents a hotel room they should be treated no differently than as if a family rented it. That hotel room becomes their private property and room because they paid for it and who comes and goes should be no one else's business.

What i said was it is illegal for an escort to operate from a hotel room in Calgary from my understanding.
They must also have a business license to operate as an escort in Calgary.
(This is essentially the case anywhere in Canada)
Hotels are not zoned for this type of business and families do not want to be staying next to escorts.

Being an escort and being black are not even a possible comparison??
It is not illegal to be black anywhere in Canada that i know of.
You can operate as a black person anywhere you like.

Everyone has the same right to stay in a hotel the same as others.
However if the hotel assumes you are using the hotel to break the law, they do not have to rent to you.
As I said, in Calgary nearly all shemales from out of town staying at hotels are escorts.
If you own a hotel and you don't want trouble this way, you will try to control travelling shemales staying at your hotel.
You have a 90% chance of being right if you are the hotel in Calgary.

In Toronto and Montreal this just isn't an issue, they are so big the anonymity factor is fully recognized.
Although big hotels in those cities stop known escorts sometimes too, but usually because they are not a guest in the hotel.

I wouldn't doubt some of the hotels are informed of what escorts are travelling with all the info on the internet.
