    Thanks!

Thanks for all your comments, everyone!

It really caught me off guard that such a horrible thing could happen to such a nice, harmless person.

Who knows for sure what motivated this douche bag to murder her, but now when I think of the details now it could have been a robbery gone bad ... the killer went to Europe for two weeks the next day. He may have needed extra cash for his trip and thought that robbing an escort would be an easy way to do it, thinking that an escort wouldn't report the robbery.

Unfortunately this girl was literally living hand to mouth, I'm sure she wouldn't have had any money to give him, which perhaps sparked things off? Who knows.

It usually takes around a year for these things to get to court, I'm sure all the details will come out then, all I can do is speculate for now.

Be interesting to hear what his so called "defence" is...

        Eight years

        UPDATE:

If anyone wishes to read it, there's an update to this sad story in today's Edmonton Sun, with Rosa's passport photo as a male:
        http://www.edmontonsun.com/2016/02/2...x-trade-worker

Well, like I predicted, our swift justice system took over 2 years to get a trial and a sentence. The killer got a reduced charge to manslaughter, based on the fact that Rosa was a sex trade worker ... as if that makes things different.

So the killer gets 8 years in prison for the murder, with 2 years already served. 6 years. A slap on the wrist.

The headline called her a transvestite ... but I knew her personally. She wanted to transition eventually so the headline wasn't exactly accurate.

Here's a photo of Rosa as I knew her, nicest & sexiest girl I've ever met:

          8 years for manslaughter!!!

Makes me fucking sick that the guy got charged with only manslaughter. The Crown prosecutor was an absolute hypocritical incompetent moron. In one part of the article he talks about how savage the beating was and how it was a grave offence and then he enters a joint submission with the defence for a guilty plea for manslaughter! one could only imagine the horror and pain this poor person went through during her final hours on earth, and this guy will be out of the street before 2020.

I wonder if such a guilty plea would be entertained if the victim was not a transgender sex worker. "noting Ribut was a vulnerable victim due to his sex-trade occupation" as if that somehow mitigates the responsibility of the scum bag who savagely murdered her. The Crown should be absolutely disgusted with himself for grossly neglecting his duty to pursue justice for this poor victim of such a heinous crime.

Murder is classified. Manslaughter is a version of murder. You still killed someone, it's still an indictable offence in Canada or felony in the USA. For example, some crimes are automatically first degree murder...such as killing a cop, terrorism or killing someone while raping them. If the crown had proof of this it was an automatic 1st degree murder charge. They obviously did not.

The legal system is not black and white. Lawyers are people, and those lawyers working for the crown are overworked and not the best of their class. The best get hired by law firms out of school. Sometimes, it's easier on the system for a lawyer to get any conviction than to take a case to court and waste taxpayers money. At best they get maybe 2-5 more years? What about the opposite? This is a criminal case. There cannot be any reasonable doubt or the accused walks. Sometimes, you have to pick your battles. It's better to get an 8 year conviction, than for the accused to walk Scott free.

Manslughter is not a slap on the wrist. You will do hard time in maximum security.

Where I live, he would have gotten much less time than 8 years and then 5 years of probation. It's a sad sad world we live in today and it ain't gettin any better!

I don't normally like to comment on these types of threads partly because I'm here for comic relief, but that story is pretty chilling. Years ago, I had a similar experience, and it's weird when something like that happens to someone you knew or admired. It's also crazy that there are people out there who wake up in the morning with the thought of who they're going to torture or kill when there's clearly so much more to life.

                    Until now.

I?ve been seeing a girl here in Edmonton once in a while since around summer 2012, a VERY passable girl with looks and voice that I?m sure could give many supermodels a run for their money, and I?m not exaggerating!

She moved here from Indonesia on the controversial temporary worker program around 2 weeks before I?d met her.

Like many newcomers to our great country, she was very lonely. A laid back, quiet talker who more than anything just wanted to make some friends here.

Being as I liked her as a person as well and I did feel some pity for her, I became a friend to her in a small way. I would call her up once in a while just to say hi, I?d take her for dinner and drinks ? and we?d share some occasional friendly texts.

I told her about Shemale Canada, but being a very shy & discreet person she preferred to just put up ads on Craigslist once in a while under the t4m section.

I hadn?t heard from her in a while, so I sent her a text a few days ago. No response ? odd, she usually answers back right away or within a few hours.

Tried again. Nothing. Maybe she met someone and is moving along in her life. Good for her, I thought to myself.

Out of curiosity, I did a search on Google ? and was shocked to read from some old news stories that she was murdered at a seedy hotel room in November of 2013!

Some 20 year old punk met her there, then bludgeoned her to death.

Not much was given in the news details, but reading between the lines I can only imagine that this low life thought he was going to see a gg ? then he flew into a violent rage once finding out that she was actually a tg.

Police tracked the murderer down using her cell phone records. He left the country for Europe the day after murdering her but Border Officials caught him when he attempted to return to Canada 2 weeks later.

Anyways, this was a real eye opener for me, and I?m sure that this is a real fear for a lot of the girls in this trade as well.

Although I feel terrible that this happened to someone I was intimate with ? on a more selfish note I began to think?

They caught the murderer by accessing her phone records & checking her FB account ? What if I?d sent her a text the night before she was murdered? Would the cops have come pounding on my door? Would they come to my workplace to question me? How many of my texts were still on her phone? Since my phone number was on her phone, would my phone number now be in police data bases?

Something I think all ?hobbyists? need to think long and hard about before giving the next girl a call?
                    very sad.

but then if she was advertising, then did she show a cock pic? was it somebody she knew on the outside? where did she work?

no matter how she worked doesn't justify that.

No, she didn't show a cock pic on Craigslist ... but it was pretty obvious she was trans since she was advertising in the t4m section.

I met her on TS Dating.com, long before she started advertising on Craigslist.

In the latest newspaper story, apparently it was a dispute over money, the killer was drunk out of his skull after celebrating his birthday with friends. Rosa was being firm with her price, so he clubbed her in a drunken rage. Later when he started to sober up and realized what he did, he left the country. Hope he enjoyed himself, he will never be able to travel outside of Canada again with a criminal record for murder.

He's got 6 years to go in prison, I'm pretty sure it will be a very unpleasant 6 years for this asshole, and it may end up being a death sentence for him.

                      Good riddance.

The reality is that prison might not be that hard for him, and he might in fact end up being the one to do those things to other people who have committed less serious crimes, and he might come out ten times worse than he is now, because that kind of environment is a breeding pit for hardened criminals precisely because of the kinds of things that go on in prison that you hope will happen to him. Even if he does die or remain in prison indefinitely, the reality is that there are many people in jail for the same or similar crimes who do end up out, and it's a scary thought, because most people who go to jail come out worse.
Huh? No, I don't "delight" in the thought of someone being raped, it was just meant as a comment on what may and probably will happen. As in "what goes around, comes around".

What do you suggest? Give him a great big hug, tell him not to be such a bad boy and set him free?

Did he intend to kill her? How do you know it didnt meet the legal criteria of manslaughter and not murder? perhaps not jump to conclusions....

He probably didn't intend to kill her, he probably didn't think at all. Drunk out of his skull, most likely turned down by other girls during his night on the town due to his drunkenness, he struck at the last girl of the evening to say NO to him.

What I object to is that the court reduced the charges to manslaughter mainly based on the fact that the victim was a sex trade worker. Like, what difference does that make?

I don't know what your views are, but I feel that if you commit a murder, you suffer the consequences. Take a life, lose your life, by spending it behind bars. Best deterrent we have.

The only exception I feel should be if it was committed in self defence.

Figures, I deleted my response before I realized you responded, because I figured you'd say something exactly like what you did - i.e. Do you suggest we just give him a big hug, etc. - and I don't blame you.

The reality is that if a loved one of mine was murdered in cold blood, I'd feel like the person responsible deserves to die, and I'd resist the urge to do something only because I don't want to go to jail myself, which is why I felt afterwards that it probably wasn't appropriate to post what I said.

I obviously wasn't proposing something like letting someone get away with murder or to send the guy to a country club, but was expressing how weird it is that he will probably become a worse person in prison precisely because those things go on, and soon he'll be back out on the streets, which to me is disturbing. What I was thinking specifically is that in many cases, no doubt the answer is the death penalty. Especially if we're talking about something really sick, like torture, mass murder, etc. The thing is that at a certain point, certain crimes don't warrant the death penalty (there's a lot of grey area though), in which case, the question is what to do, like you're saying.

But anyways, I was thinking that prison reform is not exactly an appropriate topic for me to bring up here, not to mention complicated, and I don't have all the answers, that's for sure. There's also the whole psychopathy element too. It's crazy.
