Re: Tgirls Only Just a date
Exactly! Thank you for helping to illustrate my view, Shelby. It appears to me that within the industry, 'shemale' has become the accepted marketing terminology, and while tgirls may see ourselves as female (to various degrees, and in countless flavours) a tgirl cannot be marketed as such..so 'shemale' becomes the default identifier. If compelled to refer to oneself as such in pixels and print for advertising purposes then it stands to reason that the term itself becomes comfortable over time.
But, beyond the realm of adult entertainment, escorting, etc., I have yet to meet a tgirl at any stage in her transition who self-identifies as such, or uses the term in regard to herself with friends, family, physician and so on..you simply don't see people show up on, say, a transition forum and post something like "shemale seeks transition buddy" or whatever. Or in personals ads, for example..there don't seem to be any personals from chicks seeking genuine relationships who identify themselves as 'shemale' in their ad title when seeking a long-term boyfriend. That seems to be reserved for last-minute Craigslist hook-ups and 'erotic services', and why? Because someone is trying to move a product efficiently, and so they choose the appropriate marketing language.
It simply seems to me that while I don't personally find it particularly disparaging, the term is little more than a marketing label to sell videos and personal services. In that sense it may not be an accurate/appropriate self-identity or societal label for many tgirls, from my point of view. Hope that makes some sense to ya, shy-girl!
