Simple question. You're going out for business or pleasure or business pleasure...lol
Where do you as a lady or ladies man like to hang out? Myself I've been to all those clubs listed and more.
Goodhandy's Wasn't there for long but undoubtedly my favorite place to meet up with friends , admirers and see t women. The ladies have their dances and are friendly to talk with. Also, it was good to see it was a 2 level establishment. Bar on the first and 2nd floor with ample seats, an average size dance floor and the price of drinks were fair. Add the fact they have different theme nights and a HUMONGOUS wide screen tv that even I can see with my eyes and yeah...I can say I had fun going there. One thing, the music, like the variety but not my taste. More on that later.
George's Play Was there for a while and saw the UNBELIEVABLY passable entertainer Sasha Montenegro. Oh my god. I mean REALLY passable. As for the cost of drinks I don't know what prices are as I didn't have any but loved the set up of the place. The bar engulfed the whole floor so if you wanted a drink it wasn't hard to buy one. Basically you either look at the stage or turn around and look at the bar....LOL The T women there were nice enough to look at. I am uncertain though that when I went if it was a theme night or not, there was definitely a Latin flavor at the time. Lots of room to sit and chat if you wanted. As for the music. It was good, the mix wasn't all that bad although it didn't pique my interest too much as it was mostly samba.
El Convento Rico Been there 3 times in the past 3 months and each visit got worse and worse. First of all the dance floor is tiny. Its defintiely a place where dance is encouraged but as the dance floor fills up people then tend to dance by the bar. People literally are squished together just like those clowns you see piling into a small Pinto at the circus. Oh yeah theres nothing I like more than having 300 pound Bob getting his sweaty chest in my face as he tries to cha cha cha . Not only that, the ceiling, my oh my oh my. Its so low and the lights are right up in your face. I guess its needed for the nightly show because as I remember it the entertainers had dozens of lights shone on them. The t women there, hard to approach ...but.....will warm up to you if you are sincere. As for my friends who had gone they felt the place didn't do the t women justice being there even though it is a t woman friendly bar. It seemed they generally went un noticed. Price of drinks. Higher than average. Vodka tonic for like 13 bucks. Yeah I don't THINK so.
The music. O.k. This is NOT a joke. Of all 3 times I visited they played the EXACT playlist. They'd play a salsa song, then there'd be a Jennifer Lopes tune in Spanish followed by Bon Jovi (? ? ?) which did not fit the club at all. Not only that I was waiting...waiting for them to play one club anthem as I knew a place like that would showcase it. Couldn't help but laugh when they featured "Carnival de Paris" by Dario G and hear people chant the soccer anthem "Ole ole ole ole"
The Guvernment As far as i'm concerned The Guvernment....actually no. What's The Guvernment? I don't know of any Guvernment. Isn't the Guvernment a new paint by Ralph Lauren? I'm kidding of course. Yeah, I'll say it. The WORST place in TO. Yeah. I'm being biased. Why? Consider that I was banned from there. Yeah, some of you may know me now but none of you knew me years ago when I was a hell raiser. I thought El Convento Rico had a bad dance floor the Guvernment basically has this hole in the center of the building where people fall in and swim around trying to find an exit. I saw a few t ladies there but they were not too friendly, polite yes but not friendly. Ok. I bought a few drinks for them. We chatted and had some nice chit chat but it seemed at the time they felt like they wanted to stay in their clique. Who knows.
So why the hell was I banned? Well, when I went there was a live to air radio show or something and the dj was like " Yo yo yo yo yo yo, get your up ons. Who be at in here and smokin'? " At the time I was working in radio and was shaking my head at the guy in disbelief. Unfortunately he sees me, grabs his mic and gets up in MY face trying to boost his listeners in and out of the club . he talks in his mic "Hey man, why you trippin'?" I stared at him stone faced and said nothing. He smiled thinking I wasn't serious. "Come on man. Why don't you be partying?" There is only so much retro C and C Music Factory stuff one can stomach and again I just shook my head no as if to say I didn't want to talk. The dj then looked confused and asked. "Come on man, why aren't you dancin'?" I said to him " I want you to play something GOOD." Sad part is I didnt notice he put the mic to my face and EVERYONE heard that. Needless to say I got many stares. The dj then calls up the bouncer and says..."Get him out." I shouted. "You can't kick me out for that." The bouncer comes along and ushered me away from the dj and then sees me to the door. WTF? From that point on I've never considered The Guvernment more than just a marketing tool to promote bad.... REALLY bad dance tunes.
