Be careful about looking-up shemale stuff in the Search Engines. I've had to get rid aof a lot of Spyware because of that searching, I've had to reboot where some sites booted me with more pages overlapping on my screen and some keep displaying a video player screen and asking me to download an update to play the footage. What footage? I was browsing for a shemale sex parties in my area and I got a random link to video footage and that wasn't the first time I got that. I don't trust the video update encase it's got a virus or Spyware in it. Be careful.

1) never download any software from a porn site. Don't ask why. Just don't.
2) Never use search engines for porn and expect to find anything decent unless you want to buy dvds
3) never use Internet Explorer to search the engines for porn. Use Firefox instead. In fact, I'd advise selling your computer for a mac. It's much more resistant to dumb moves like that.

Anyone browsing the internet on a PC without the following, is asking for problems:

Router - basic NAT. protects you against most unsolicited incoming traffic. $40 one time.

AntiMalware - Viruses are not as much of a threat these days as 'spyware/malware'. Most good Virus programs combat all malware. The product I've had the best protection from is Kaspersky. Antivirus/Malware/registry modifications/antihacking all good. $50-$70 per year.

Prevx - Validates any process/service trying to run, before letting it run. It will go to an online database and compare it with established knowns. This is great for those viruses that pose as legit windows services. It can prevent malware from ever getting installed, or running in the background. It also can save your ass if you do get a nasty infection that won't allow your antivirus to run. $25 per year.

Firewall - (software)- Most anti-malware has a firewall too, but for ultimate control use Zone Alarm Pro. It monitors ALL outbound traffic as well as inbound. Something that Windows Firewall does not do. You will see just how many connections to the internet your programs attempt to make behind your back. $40-$60 per year, but if you use it for firewall only like I do, you don't have to renew it each year.

Yes that's alot of protection. Signs of the times I guess. but it's worth it it you like to surf.

I can't get a Mac for two reasons, one, I've just bought a new PC and two, what puts me off a Mac is I feel as if there's less software for the Mac. For example, does the game GTA: SA install and work in the Mac? I don't know because I've never used a Mac.

Many thanks for the help there. I have to admit, I have to spice things up. I do regular scan and I check for updates before each scan. At the moment I'm trying to get the best registery scanner and Malware scanner. My Anti-Virus is Advast and my Spyware scanner is AD-Aware Basic. The Pro version pissed me off when I bought it because AD-Watch kept appearing all the time like a mad pop-up AD. If also messed-up an installation a few years ago with the MSN Messenger. Even though AD-Watch has addresses in such as porn addresses, I never know why MSN, Netscape, Yahoo and AOL addresses are in there, too. Norton Utilites sucks because it causes errors while you fix them. The only Norton software I trust is Go Back. The rest of their software is utter pants.

You didn't download it intentionally. It downloaded itself for you. That's a fundamental flaw with searching the googles and yahoos of the world for porn while using Internet Explorer.

Macs can play your windows games if you dual boot... but that defeats the purpose of having a mac, kinda. Frankly, an xbox 360 with a modded firmware can play all your downloaded 360 games anyways. Do as I did. Have a Windows desktop for programming, a Mac laptop for day to day use, a Linux server for hoarding my endless collection of files, and an Xbox 360 for the games . It's smarter to spread those purchases over a few years though - otherwise you'll have a nasty hole in the wallet.

Google has a toolbar for Firefox, I'm not sure about Yahoo though. Frankly, I hate toolbars. I don't need unnecessary junk cluttering up my screen. Besides, I find it easier to just type 'gmail.com' rather than looking for the button to check my email.

I totally agree ... Get A Mac!! I've used nothing but Macs for 20 years and only seen one worm virus problem around 1991, which was quickly fixed. Never had any security issues or virus problems since. I don't run any anti-virus or anti-spyware software on my iMac and don't need to, as it just isn't an issue on the Mac.

For years, I read about virus and security problems on Windows machines and wonder why Windows is so popular with all those flaws.

A small history for uninformed Windows users:

Microsoft's top operating system back in the early 80s was DOS, a crappy, unstable green code program that they ripped off from a programmer for a mere $50,000.

Apple purchased the rights from Xerox to create a user-friendly interface back in the early 80s, which eventually lead to the first Mac.

The first Mac came out in 1984, the first Windows OS came out in 1985. Microsoft created Windows by copying Apple's Mac OS since the beginning ... and still are to this day.

Vista is nothing but a complete rip-off of Mac OSX Tiger. Apple can't sue them anymore of course, because Microsoft owns shares in Apple, part of a deal (blackmail?) back in the late 90s ... Microsoft threatened to stop making Mac versions of MS Office (which would have destroyed Apple at that time) if Apple didn't sign on the dotted line and agree to sell shares to Microsoft and agree to never sue them again.

Which brings us to today, where Microsoft continues to create inferior, flaky, unstable and unsecure products ... and can continue to rip off Apple to their hearts content without fear of lawsuits.

You can run Windows on the new Macs with Leopard (Mac OS 10.5), so essentially, all Windows software can run on a Mac now.

Once you go Mac, you don't go back.

...I spent 4 years of my life studying IT and about 12 years working with computers. I've worked with Windows, Linux, and OS X. Nothing beats that Mac experience. Just don't switch to Leopard - that OS is a bloody pain in the arse if you want to use lesser known applications... but that's what I get for deciding to be an early adopter

If you can, plug a second Hard-drive in your PC and install a Linux (Debian or Mandriva) and use Linux to surf the internet. You will notice a certain improvment in safety...

I'm very grateful for all the MAC advise but sadly I recently bought a PC and there's no turning back to get a MAC. I can't send my PC back because I've had it too long and I can't blame a bullshit fault with it because there's nothing wrong with it unless it's going to act strange at any time over an unwanted piece of software but people that I bought it from won't count that as a faulty PC because it was OK when it left the factory.

Before I plan on getting a MAC in the future at any time, can PC games be installed and run OK in a MAC? I'd hate to lose out on my PC games. For example, I love the GRAND THEFT AUTO games and I've never known them to be compatable for the MAC as well as my other PC games. I know they are old games and I can play them in my PS2 or My XBox 360 but I might want to play the PC versions again. Also any other new games coming out in years to come for the PC might not work in the MAC as far as I know. I've never used a MAC so I don't know.

PC games run just fine on a mac if you put Windows on it as well. AKA, you need to reboot your mac and fire up windows rather than OS X. Personally, I just keep a separate pc... but my macbook is for work use and is thus paid for by my company.

Try running Ubuntu. GO to ubuntu.com and burn the cd using Nero or something. Reboot your pc and set it to boot off cd. The Ubuntu disk won't install anything, but it'll give you a nice, ultra secure, virus immune Linux environment to play with. If you don't like it, just reboot and take out the cd. You'll be back in Windows (:
