A question for Mike and anyone else.

Hi,

Do you think Michelle Phillips actually sang or was she just mouthing the words?

I sort of think the others wanted her in the band because she was so EXTREMELY beautiful, you know?... to increase their popularity.
She was, after all, the major "slurp" of the 60's.
When i watch them perform, it seems to me that Mama Cass' vocal really stands out.

It's hard to say if Michelle Philips was singing or not. Most of the tv shows at the time did lip synching anyway for most of the performances so you can't go solely by their tv appearances. Whether she was singing live or not at their concerts...who knows? I think she was in the band because she was married to John, the major song writer in the group. Did you know vocalist Denny Doherty is Canadian?

Hi Mike,

Almost all of the TV shows, back then, were lip-synched - but not all were.
The clip i put up was from the Monterey Pop Festival, which was a live performance, and it sounds like Michelle is not singing, at all.

Yea i knew John and Michelle were married.
Did you know that Michelle had an affair with Denny?
Yes, i know he is Canadian.
Did you know that he had a big part in the children's television show,
Theodore Tugboat?

John Phillips was screwed up by committing incest with his first daughter, McKenzie Phillips, from his first marriage. She starred as Julie on the 80s television show, One Day At A Time.

I hope you know about Wilson Phillips. They were a girl singing band with two of Brian Wilson's daughters, and John and Michelle Phillips' daughter, Chynna, Mckenzie's step sister.

I can't say enough about Thin Lizzy, they are my favourite band. They had so many great songs. Phil Lynott was such a good songwriter, he could weave a story into a song like few others could do. I often compare his type of storytelling in song to Bruce Springsteen. The music is quite different but they seemed to have a similar way of telling a story, you could picture their lyrics in your head when you listen to a song. Some of my favourites:

I love old time rock and roll too guys like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard.

Chuck Berry was really something. Little Queenie is one of my favs. You know a song is good if you can drink, fight or fuck to it LOL
