I agree. Life is all about choices. The ones we make, and the ones we don't. The problem is many people confuse choice with routine. And like you mentioned, unless it is a basic need you really do not "Have" to do anything. Just be prepared to live with the aftermath.

Now i deeply contemplated a reply to this interesting post now i could easily go devils advocate on this topic and spin a whole sociological angle that weaves with society and human needs on a compelling ground at to why someone needs to get their hair cut. but in the end it would be a argument against myself as i feel everything is choice weather subconscious or not.

But does that answer my question? Quoting a Buddhist does not mean you agree with the saying. Nor does it mean that you neither agree or disagree with the topic i've presented, here.

What do YOU think, madplotter, and everyone else? That's what i want to learn.

              Babe,

                    The power of quotes

I tend to use quotes that I believe in because their message resonates with me. Someone once asked me if I would like to buy an iPad and I said after a couple of days, the novelty would probably wear off. My wants dictates my choices in life. If I give into these impulses to constantly buy the latest and greatest shiny thing, I would have to declare bankruptcy.

Freedom of choice is great but we cannot escape the consequences, whether good or bad, of our actions.

One day I was going through a Tim Horton's drive through and a lady in a SUV was entering through a second entrance. Being fairly laid back, I let her in front of me. When I got to the window to pick up my medium double double, the server told me that the lady in the SUV paid for my coffee. Wasn't that a nice story about choice and consequence?

This thread is basically about the philosophical problem of free will.

I'm not a pure determinist. I think that some degree of "choice" is possible....but only "possible", and only to a few people.

Most people are robots, or sleepwalkers. They delude themselves with the idea that their path in life, and their actions, are a result of free choices freely made.

For the most part, we're just reacting. To circumstance, contingency, to events and people in our past, to our very genes.

Once or twice in my life I've caught a glimpse of real free choice, and it's a scary thing.
