The Habs start each year wanting to win a cup

The Leafs start each year wanting to make it to the playoffs. When they lose people still buy all the tickets.

Montreal players are taught that it is an honor to play for the TEAM, the Leafs are taught they need to make it to the playoffs.

When Kessel plays bad he misses a few shifts to teach him a lesson, when a player (PK last year for example) plays bad he is a healthy scratch, or if he opens his mouth like Camelleri he gets traded 2 days later, or he won't sign for a fair price he won't play.

Attitude goes a long way, finishing 2nd is not acceptable in Montreal. When they team loses a lot, the crouwd goes down to 15,000 a game

Leafs have no idea what class is, I think when you become as desperate as they are, anything goes. Go HABS Go

Imagine a scenario where the Leafs just beat the Habs and you are watching the game with Shyla. She knows you are a Leaf fan and takes the loss out on your ass
This and the reply just gave me a good idea for a story (I write stories on Literotica) lol thanks for that. Also...I know what it's like to be a fan of a team that has not won in years. Still waiting for my Philadelphia Flyers to pick up the pace and whoop some ass...I love em' but I'll probably be dead by the time they win another cup.

Of course I have to chime in. Brain McCabe was never as good as the media tried to make us believe. But that is Toronto. Luke Schenn was supposed to be our next great, and they tried to make us believers in him. McCabe and Darcy Tucker got lucky with timing. When the blue line moved back and created more offensive zone, McCabe shot worked because Kaberle kept setting him up. Tucker stood in one spot and had his one timer. The next year, teams figured it all out. Tucker got a great contract from that one year of success. (We may still be paying him. LOL) McCabe did well all due to Kaberle in my opinion.

Now as far as the best team ever, I have a theory about Montreal. Now growing up there, and playing hockey all my life, you have to remember something, no cities had arenas where you had ice in the Summer. So it makes sense that so many great players came out of Quebec. They had ice outdoors longer than any other city. (No real Winnipeg team back then, sorry) So as young players, we had much more time to work on our skills. Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Montreal, Boston, New York were the main 6 teams of course, and Montreal would have had ice outdoors longer than anyone, to practice. Which may be why 16 out of 24 cups were won by 1970. (I think my stats are right)

A few years later, everyone started getting ice all year long. And it became much more competitive for other provinces players. Does this make sense. I'm in no way a weather expert, but this makes a lot of sense to me. My friends and I played outdoors for hours. You could not even find a place to play outside in Toronto now. Plus the kids are so spoiled with the quantity of arenas and available ice now. I play against young talent today that are in line to play in the OHL, or are from the OHL and in the Summer are playing to stay in shape in adult leagues. The talent out there is amazing. I can't imagine how they pick from the talent pool that is available.

When I was young, my father would often bring me to the outdoor rink near our house in a suburb of Montreal. I didn't understand this at the time but he would point out a young fellow in the corner of the rink who was shooting heavy steel pucks at a mat on the boards for hours. He had many wooden sticks with him, broke many and repeated this exercise and others all the time. He played 968 games in NHL, had 863 points including 428 goals and is in HOF. His name is Yvan Cournoyer.

That's a good opinion. Funny but I believe today I spoking to Wildman on my balcony smoking a cigarette. I remember saying out loud, "I wonder if gobal warming would have an effect on the Canadian Game." Within the last 20 years I remember playing outdoor hockey from Early November until the end of February or Mid March. 4-4.5 months of outdoor hockey. But today, outdoor rinks startup in December if we are lucky, and by mid February are melting. 2 months.

Another reason Montreal does well, French Canadian Pride. The Richard Riot proved that. Back in the day, Montreal vs Toronto was French vs English. That pride still burns within the heart of many Quebecers. Look Richard and the passion in those eyes....Patrick Roy has the same fire....the passion to win. In Montreal, playing for the Habs is a great honor. You are paid to play a game that 95% of all Quebec males want to play. Therefore, give 100%. That is why our players get booed. LACK OF EFFORT. Montrealers can accept losing....but NOT a lack of effort.

I agree with Wildman. The talent on the outdoor rinks is sick. My cousin (who I will not name as we have the same last name) is a first line center in the NHL. I've played shinny with Vincent Lecavalier and shot pucks at Martin Brodeur. I could mention others, but if you playor played hockey in Quebec...chances are you are playing with a future NHL player or star.
