Can't go wrong, there is at least a dozen ladyboy bars within 10 blocks of the condo.
Some of them even open at noon!
Nuthin' like some Short-Time in the afternoon!

There is freelancers everywhere in Bangkok and especially Pattaya.
The police are currently appearing to clean up freelancers on walking street in Pattaya.
          http://theladyboyforums.com/asiaboar...n-prostitution

However all the girls in the bars are for sale so the main difference is the ladyboys that work in bars are more regulated.
Everyone gets their cut all the way down. With the freelancer some people don't get their fair share.
The girls that work in bars are known by the police and regularly tested for drugs and disease, so in that way they are working for you. Addicts aside, most of these girls would not even take one puff of a joint in fear of going to jail from a random test.
You sort of have to understand how things work in Thailand.
There is bars in Thailand just for freelancers in Pattaya, where they hang out, but this is different than working the street.
But if they are working in these bars they still will fall under regulation.

As far as calling freelancers off the internet in Thailand, mostly it is only the very rich and discreet doing this.
Going out and finding girls is by far the best, funnest and cheapest way to do it.
As most bars provide a short time facility, you can give the girls a test run before taking them home for the night.
Calling an unknown escort you never know what will happen.
Why just call one, when you can go out and pick from many, have a beer and maybe play some pool?
(and go upstairs for a quickie, legally)

So with freelancers you don't know if they are tested, they may be criminals and they have no affiliation to anything or anyone.
With the bar you pay a fine to the bar to take them out, then at least you have somewhere to go back to complain when something bad happens. Most of these girls have to pay to work in these bars, so they are less likely to fuck with a good thing.
A freelancer can steal all your shit and be in Nakhon Ratchasima before you can blink an eye, and you don't even know where that is. Chances are if they are in the bars they are tested for drugs and disease by authorities on a regular schedule.
As my one buddy said, Thailand is pre-filtered for your pleasure.

Then of course some of the freelancers you will see on websites do work in bars, but you will spend way more meeting them through the web privately most times. The freelancers on the street in Bangkok and specifically Pattaya can be exceptionally cheap. Really though, in Thailand you usually want to make sure someone sees you together. Police are less likely to be of assistance if you are circumventing the "system". Like i say, for whatever reason, going to a bar and taking a girl home is legal.
Calling an escort or picking one up on the street is basically illegal. Although there is many times in Thailand that Pattaya has just been let run wild. Street girls everywhere and in bars.

The secret i have found, is you go to the bars the that the bar girls go to after work.
Then they are still bar girls but there is no bar fine.

And if you do see a street girl that you just must have, you can just take them to a short time room instead of back to your main room.
Most short time hotels you can go for 1-2 hours for $10 or less. Usually the girl can rent it with her ID for you.
That way your shit is safe. Also you should always ask to look at a girls ID. In Thailand they show it to everyone and most hotels you bring them to will have them leave their ID with the front desk. But if you take them to short time and they are not from a bar you should make damn sure yourself that they are old enough.

Usually i leave my passport in my safe and carry a copy of it. I think you are suppose to have it on you, but I have never had a problem.
I have been inspected many times by police but they never asked for my ID. They looked in my wallet for drugs a couple times.
My GF go pulled over for driving the wrong way down a one way street but they left me in the car when they hauled her into the station for questioning. You don't want to lose your passport.

Many girls there are very good and trustworthy but always protect your safe combo, not like this guy:
          http://theladyboyforums.com/asiaboar...n-5-star-hotel

Mostly i leave my money in the bank and take it out of ATMs as i need it.
American express travellers cheques are a hassle and can get ripped off, too much cash on hand the same.
I have 3-4 atm or credit cards with money on them in case one gets cut off. There is ATMs every 2 feet in Thailand.
Usually i never have more than $300 cash on hand at any give time. That much money can feed me all day, get me drunk and laid about 3 times or more in Thailand.

Anyway you should go read some of the trip reports and stuff on this forum and you will see how things work.

            good advice

Well thanks for all that good advice Crag that was awesome. I see what you mean though and I understand now why some of the bar girls do have their self on places like Thai friendly Craigslist and back pages obviously I can more money through that way instead of at the bar. I think I'll probably just stick with the bar girls but we'll see how it goes. I'll definitely play it on the side of caution no matter what happens. Doesn't sound like I'm going to be lonely there...

The thing about Thailand is you have to be careful and follow the rules.
If you do, you can do just about anything you want short of drugs and crime.
They want you to party with escorts, but they want you to do it their way.
Plus many of the girls on craiglist and other sites can often be associated to human traffickers, unlike here.
Russians and other foreign mafia run rampant in Thailand, they are the ones often providing unregulated prostitution services.
The only thing worse than a Thai mobster, might be a Russian one. I hope they don't have babies together.

Most of the people that get into trouble there are doing something illegal, which includes calling escorts.
Or showing disrespect to authorities and respected individuals.
There are way more people in Bangkok out to scam you and rob you than anywhere in Canada, including some of the authorities. For the most part stuff will rarely go wrong with bar girls, but there is always a few crazies out there like anywhere.
Being caught in a bad spot might mean trouble for you. Getting robbed by someone off the internet may not even warrant investigation by the police. Sometimes if there is nothing in it for them, they don't care. However if one of the girls at their bars is acting up, that may affect someones pocket book

The main thing that calling girls to your room will cost you is more money. You may, I suppose, have more privacy.
However since everyone in Pattaya is doing the exact same thing as you, it is not really like you would stand out in any way.
In fact your are less likely to stand out by being like everyone else.

Another thing is the actual calendar year in Thailand is 2557 right now.
So if you look at a girls ID it may not say 2014.

If they are 18, They should have been born before today in 1996 in Canada or most other countries.
In Thailand they should be born in the year 2539

They use the Buddhist Calendar and we use the Gregorian Calendar

So as far as money goes in Thailand you will want to use Thai Baht for everything in Thailand.
Merchants don't want US dollars or anything but Thai Baht.
Most businesses don't like to take credit cards in Thailand. The exception would be hotels and large department and grocery stores. Most other stores will try to charge you an additional 5% or more for using a credit card if they take it.

Here is a great description of Thai money and stuff
                    http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Travel-g29...And.Money.html

So cash is king in Thailand. If you have a large amount to pay then you may want to take Canadian money, say $1000, with you and exchange it when you get there. The rate in Thailand is ALWAYS cheaper than Canada.
For example i need to pay for my 2 weeks in a condo at once in cash, so I am taking 1000 US dollars that i have and exchanging it when i get there. There is exchange booths all over the airport and most parts of Bangkok and Pattaya. Plus you can just go in a bank.
I put together some examples of exchange rates based on US dollars here:
                    http://theladyboyforums.com/asiaboar...exchange-rates

If you don't need a big lump sum you are better to leave your money in the bank and use ATMs as required.
It may cost you a bit in fees but you will get a better Thai rate and your money will be safer.
I always take 3-4 different cards with money on them in case one gets cut off, which can happen overseas.
Then if one does get suspended I can use online banking to put it on a different card.

I usually never carry more than $300 at a time and only carry one bank card at a time.

Tipping is not actually customary in Thailand but they are used to it in the Tourist areas.
Bargaining at stores is customary but not always effective.

Raising your voice or getting angry to get your way does not work there.
You will just get ignored as a crazy person.

                      Money

No doubt you guys are all pretty excited to be going on this trip and with good reason. There is a 150 Baht fee to withdraw money by ATM so best to take out the max at any one time to cut down on these charges. Personally I take all my money is cash and lock it away. The rates at the money exchanges are better than the banks and they can be found all over Pattaya.

Hopefully the weather improves by the time you arrive as we are still in the wet season just now, the tail end mind.

I've tried taking cash and just using cards. Generally I feel safer keeping my money in the bank and taking it as needed, i just look at the 150 fee as a charge for keeping my money safer. I have never had any problems with cash or theft but there is always the possibility of loss. Plus i have issues with over spending if I keep wads of cash on hand. The ATM is a good buffer for me.

Weather should be good, i have been to Pattaya in November many times and it has always been pretty good.
Anything is better than November in Canada!
When i went to Koh Chang in September it rained about half the time. People thought i was crazy just walking around the beach in the pouring rain. I told them in Canada there isn't many times you can just walk around in the rain and not freeze to death.

I think one of the reason the VB is a week later this year is because of the weather and the probability that the rains will have passed. It should be a fantastic day out.

Ain't that the truth. You can't swing a cat in Pattaya without hitting a ladyboy.

It almost seems like 7-11's in Pattaya have a ladyboy only hiring policy.
That seems to be the first career step before becoming a waitress/server in a Gogo bar.

If it was possible the Mayor would probably be a Ladyboy.

                                There's cats in Pattaya?
