I've tried taking cash and just using cards. Generally I feel safer keeping my money in the bank and taking it as needed, i just look at the 150 fee as a charge for keeping my money safer. I have never had any problems with cash or theft but there is always the possibility of loss.

You might be able to open an account at Kasikorn, sometimes they will let you open an account with a Tourist Visa or even a 30 day stamp. They give you an ATM card on the spot. Then you can change a wad of cash and stick it into Kasikorn and withdraw as needed without any fees whatsoever if you withdraw in the same region as where you opened your account.

That might be a good option. Since i get some of my pay on a prepaid credit card, i have to go to the ATM regardless.
Having all your money in your room isn't very convenient either, so i guess a balance between the two may be good.
I have wondered how easy it is to open bank accounts there.

So the trip is on and here is the first reports.
I will try to make all you poor sods that didn't come as jealous as i can.

I start out in Vancouver with my 12 hour Executive class flight to Seoul, Korea.
Then a 5 hour economy flight on Asiana to Bangkok.

For dinner was AAA Alberta beef fliet mignon and asparagus and mash. Yum.
Rum, California Red, and some port with my fruit and Cheese course.
Not to mention Baileys and coffee with my desert.
Next watched several hollywood movies. The new planet of the apes, new Transformers, some new Tom Cruise science fiction and the one where the frat house moves in next to Seth Rogan.

By the time i get to Bangkok it is almost 22 hours in the air.
I get to my hotel at the Phachara Suites near Nana about midnight.
Quickly i head out to Big Dogs for a beer to survey the situation but Nana is very quiet compared to usual.

First real night in Bangkok but i am sure feeling the jet lag. I have a nap then go for a swim in the pool. After that i head down to Bullies Pub for a beer and a sandwich. Then i head over to Nana and walk around a bit then settle at Big Dogs for another beer. I am really tired so i decide just to save my energy and get some sleep, I still have 3 weeks in Thailand no need to be worn out the whole time.

The next day i feel much better go shopping a bit in the afternoon then come back to the Hotel for a swim.
At about 8pm i go to head out for the night but it is raining cats and dogs, so i decide to eat at the hotel in hopes the rain will stop.
After dinner the rain is still going so I get my Umbrella from the room and head out.
I make my way over to the Check In Bar on Soi 7. This is a hot newer Ladyboy bar i have heard alot about. It is quite busy this night and there is probably 20 tgirls working, plus about 10 customers.


Am greets me at the door and brings me to a seat at the bar. As she is very hot I don't bother worrying about any others.

We get back to my room and make a drink and get down to business.

So my first night in Pattaya and I head over to my favourite Restaurant The Haven Hotel and have Panang Curry chicken and some fried Prawns mmm.


Then it is off to Kings Bar for the pre volleyball party. The bar is quite small but rocking. Met lots of new friends including the boss. Got some shots of the ladies out front.


The the boss rings the house drink bell and the bartenders scramble to get Sambuca shots poured for everyone!
