The Ukrainian army proper is refusing to attack civilians..

There's a really big potential for bloodshed right now tho as the Right Sector Militia might simply attack with all the weapons and equipment the appropriated during the coup.. They are calling for the use of extreme force..

If the Right Sector starts attacking Russian speaking Ukrainian people Putin may very well step in..

It's unlikely that NATO or the USA would intervene on a military level against Russia on this matter.. Doing so would start WW3..

Aljazeera is doing a fairly good job of unbiased reporting unlike the western media.. RT.com is providing the best coverage..
I highly doubt that Aljazeera does not have their own regional/ethnic/religious biases in their reporting. But also unlikely that does not apply to every news agency around the world.

Absolutely they are biased.. However their bias leans in a different direction.. Their reporting on Ukraine is more impartial tho as it doesn't involve them.. As such I've noticed they put forward a different view that isn't the USA anti Russia thing found on USA and Canadian stations..

German TV is also very biased and opinionated but the news there is that it's business as usual and Russian/German relations are as good as ever..

The BBC seems to be following Washington's lead..

I really like that a couple groups of Ukrainian soldiers that were sent out to break up protesters decided to join the people instead..

Like Putin said in regards to Kiev sending the army to deal with the protesters.. "Tanks and fighter jets? Are you crazy? Who are you going to use them on?"

Yes I see your point and it is good to read/view different media outlets for a more balanced view of world events than what CBC, CTV, CNN, etc, dish out. The other side is always accused of escalating a situation when usually it is just each side heightening their precautions, security/defence levels in response to what they perceive the other side is doing.

Funny to see the Russians singing a different song now!!!

It's all song and dance when your winning and have no resistance! Now with Ukraine fighting back in the East...whining, crying...yet still blaming everything on Ukraine! The rebels keep the people hungry, running around looking for water to drink, no food to eat...yet the rebels have all they need. First thing Ukraine did after winning the city back was feed everybody and give them water.

See the difference in people and culture?

The busses are still there to take the Russian speakers to the safe borders of Russia...get on them! You wanna live in Russia...GO TO RUSSIA!!

Crimea...oh so tragic to the Russian speaking people of Crimea! Now that you belong to Russia...you are all losing your businesses. What did you expect!? Putin only wanted the land and the gas fields...consider yourselves "collateral damage!" You got what you wanted...now rejoice in Russia! Crimea will go back to Ukraine btw!

                Of course...sometimes...

But word is out even from the Russian speaking Ukrainians from the East...they are afraid of the pro-Russians. Pro-Russian military are stealing their cars, removing them from their homes...saying they need them for "their" army and for the fight.

Real Ukrainian civilians are afraid to leave their homes because If recognized they'll be beat, tortured, disappear never to be heard or seen again! But that's nothing new, that never ceased even after the end of communism. The KGB are still alive and well.

Pro-Russians are roaming the streets like bands of thugs...with automatic weapons! Yet continue to blame everything on the evil Ukraine who has never invaded nor fired the first shot.

Pro-Russian separatists hide in the cities, amongst the local populations, using the civilians as human shields. Move from one city to the next with not a care of the death of the people nor the destruction of the cities.

Ukraine military must follow them, chase them...end this revolt of greed and take back their land, their people, their resources...ROOT THEM OUT!

Russian speaking Ukrainians, born in the country of Ukraine, are getting a real taste of what they thought was a victory in becoming a part of Russia. Now you see Russian values and respect for human life.

Sopen is real Ukrainian last name. Its my fake name, but still that pretty much makes me an expert on these matters . Mr. Putin has made a calculation, namely that aggression against American and European interests, is worth the risks. Americans such as my self, are tired of war after Afghanistan and Iraq. European interests, especially Germany, are more dependent on Russian gas due to their abandoning nuclear power after Fukushima.

                  • Putin/America

Putin's sole interest was military and gas...Crimea. There is thought to be trillions worth of untapped gas deposits in Crimea.

The rest is political puppetry between Russia and the USA. The American people I'm sure are tired of always being at war, but the government is not. Politically the best that could happen for the USA would be for Russia to lodge a military invasion into Ukraine. Should that happen Putin and Russia will look like the bad guys for sure and would solidify the unities of the EU, those sitting on the fence "will" see the need for protection of the EU, and the USA. Which is why Putin hasn't moved into the rebel East in a full scale invasion.

However, most of the rebel Pro-Russians in the East are from several other countries, paid to fight, as individuals they are poor and need the money. Simple as that! Much similar to the US Civil War where men were paid to take sides, even Canadians fought in the American Civil War...to earn a paycheck.

Hopefully in Ukraine it will end soon...it may not, the East will settle and realize they are Ukrainians, in Ukraine, and Crimea will go back to its rightful owners...Ukraine.

Is this the beginning of a new Cold War based on Russian aggression and expansionism or was this a valid move by Russia and the wishes of the Crimean people to be a part of Russia and not the Ukraine? Is it hypocritical for the West particularly the US to make a big deal about this when they send troops into whatever country and situation they feel is warranted to protect "American interests"?
The Western Governments and media have propagated so many lies about that situation, it's not even funny. They paint Russia and Putin as the aggressor, despite Victoria Nuland being on video stating that the U.S spent over $5 billion to destabilize Ukraine and overthrow the Government in a violent coup. In truth, if the situation is about expansion, it's about NATO expansion in placing missiles on Russia's border, which they have already done in Poland and seek to do in Ukraine. If Russia were to destabilize Canada and / or Mexico and seek to do the same to the U.S, would the U.S not object? It's only logical that Russia would seek to secure and protect the Naval base they have in Crimea. And if the U.S is all about freedom and democracy, as they claim, then they should embrace Crimea's choice to choose their own destiny. But because it doesn't suit their agenda, they reject it out of hand. Why did the U.S not wait and allow Ukraine to similarly hold an election, instead of over throwing the Government? Because Ukraine wisely was going to sign an economic deal with Russia instead of the broke and bankrupt EU, and the West could not allow that. They want the corrupt IMF to get their talons into Ukraine, as they have done other countries.

Putin should get the Nobel Peace Prize for helping avoid WWIII, by outmaneuvering the U.S and stopping them from bombing Syria, which would have spread to a wider conflict, but alas, that prize typically goes to Presidents that drone strike people around the World instead. This whole situation reeks of "Weapons of Mass Destruction", which we all know was a lie leading to over 1 million dead Iraqi people. Yet, Westerners for the most, part keep falling for the same propaganda. Most still don't even realize that the U.S created, funds and controls Al Qaeda. But the West needs a Boogie Man, and they have chosen Putin.

There's a lot of hype against Russia..

Maybe Putin is not like Stalin or Hitler..

Maybe he's more like the next Peter the Great..

The people of Russia seem to view him as such..

All the countries they are friends with do too.. mainly the other BRICS nations..

Together the BRICS will take over global commerce..

The USA is worried about loosing their hegemony on global commerce.. their answer is war..

                            • Satan, not the other assholes!

Putin is under Satan's influence: leader of Kiev Orthodox Church

KIEV (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin has fallen under the spell of Satan and faces eternal damnation unless he repents, a top Ukrainian clergyman said on Saturday in an unusually blunt statement that squarely blamed the Russian leader for the war in Ukraine.

Patriarch Filaret heads the Kiev Patriarchate, a branch of the Orthodox Church that broke away from Moscow in 1992 after the fall of the Soviet Union and the declaration of an independent Ukraine.

His church, a rival of the Moscow Patriarchate which is closely linked to Putin, strongly supports Ukrainian nationhood and the Kiev government's struggle to defeat pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

"With great regret I must now say publicly that among the rulers of this world ... there has appeared a new Cain, not by his name but by his deeds," Patriarch Filaret said, invoking the Biblical character who killed his brother Abel.

"Like the first fratricide of history Cain, these deeds show that the afore-mentioned ruler has fallen under the action of Satan," he said in the statement, published on the patriarchate's website in Ukrainian, Russian and English. (http://cerkva.info/en/messages/5417-new-kain.html)

The statement, entitled "New Cain", was released on the first full day of a ceasefire between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian rebels. At least 2,600 people have died in fighting in eastern Ukraine since it erupted in April.

Putin is a baptized Orthodox Christian and has forged close ties with Russia's Orthodox Church, seeing it as a valuable ally in his battle with what he sees as a decadent Western world.

Filaret, who recently took over the Kiev patriarchate, said Putin had deliberately stoked the conflict in Ukraine by sending mercenaries, troops and weapons across the border and had spread lies via Russia's mass media about what was really happening.

Putin denies sending Russian troops into Ukraine or arming the separatists, despite what Kiev and its Western backers say is overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

"This ruler is cynically lying, saying his country is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine, though he did everything in order to foment the conflict and maintain it," said Filaret.

"He calls himself a brother to the Ukrainian people, but in fact according to his deeds, he has really become the new Cain, shedding the brotherly blood and entangling the whole world with lies," Filaret said.

Filaret urged the Orthodox faithful to pray that Putin would "come to his senses". Otherwise, the patriarch added, he would face "an ignominious end and eternal damnation in hell".
