The whole thing has nothing to do with expensive surgery either, it is what's in your head.
Some real transsexuals have cheap surgery and some have no surgery.
I know some that have all the surgeries but are not transsexuals.
There is real transsexuals that will always live as guys because they are scared to admit it.
Gender Dysphoria Syndrome = Transsexual, not surgeries.

I think you hit the nail on the coffin Lucy..I have nothing against cd but that is just a man with a wig and the distinctive feautures in the face and body show that this person does not take hormones.I just believe that people should be classified correctly so that people know what the difference is which is quite noticeable visually.XOXO Real Transexual Alyssa

So you can see that there will have to be a set of rules established if "REAL" becomes a criteria. This will be impossible to accomplish without discriminating against someone on some technicality. I personally feel that the reason why the use the term "real" is because of the effort they put into their transformation. In my preference, I will not have any sexual relations with anything other than girls who put their efforts into their transformation. If a guy just slaps on make up, I won't touch it and I know because I tried it once. Now I ask t-girls when I see them if it's full time or part time. I have nothing against any others but as you say it is all how you feel. If they feel like "real" transexuals then so be it. I don't think they are. You might not need implants, but an effort with hormones is a minimum. If you were truly confused with your gender, or the one which was assigned to you, then you would be making almost all efforts to revert back. With that respect, I would call post ops females, not shemales anymore. I have experimented with men before also, and I cannot even get hard. Therefore as most people on the forum we are attracted to t-girls for their FEMININITY on genetic girls. A guy with no hormones or surgeries is unlikely to appear very feminine, but ultimately you can tell they are guys when their clothes are off. That's what doesn't attract me. But when this girl with a great curvy body pops out a woody, I don't have to think twice because I am already mentally convinced. But that is just me personally. What defines "real" though is extremely opinionated, so you cannot say someone is wrong for it. For example, designer wallets can be conceived as real or fake also, but this is limited to their features such as interior, exterior and overall quality of design.
