Personally, I agree that Obama is the right choice to lead America from an optical standpoint. The global image of the US changes even before Obama takes office. McCain had no logical retort to any of Obama`s pre-election arguments and I think people are fundamentally capable of judging for themselves which candidate had the temperament necessary to lead the institution of the presidency. There is very little McCain or any other republican could have done to manage America effectively (i.e. the yield curve is already too steep to accomodate a republican president). The "business" of American government this cycle demands an image more maleable to policies which result in a moderate to significant inversion of the yield curve. Democrats are traditionally best able to perform this role credibly and Obama made the most compelling case period. The real question moving forward is how long before the effective fed funds rate supersedes the overnight london interbank offered rate (LIBOR) and precipitates a renewed flight out of US dollars.
I`m glad I live in Canada

Obama has no real competition, he could do absolutely nothing and get re-elected easily.
Guatemala, Mexico and other central/south american countries want to end drug prohibition to deal with the ultra violent cartels in their countries but need the US cooperation to prevent sanctions. Obama hinted he'd be down for that during his 2nd term.
