A funny thing happened to me on the way to the forum...

I was very surprised to read about the trouble between Jizelle and Craig. I don't know anything about it so I can't offer any suggestions. I just found it surprising and regretable.
There have been some valuable insights on this thread from Tia, Toban, Rantsalot, Shyla, and Bawb. However, this topic raises more questions than it answers, at least in my mind.

I'm speaking generally here, about what it's like to be alive in this day and age. We can wax philosophical. We can be moralistic. We can give advice. We can choose our words and think carefully before we act. However, none of that changes the fact that we are, by our very presence on the planet, taking up resources and comitting harm. Can we do more good than we cause? Sure. Can we be valuable and helpful and kind? Sure. But is that what people are doing, generally? Not all of them, that's for sure. There are those who take advantage for their own gain. There are those who are in a bad way. There are those who are struggling. That would be most of us, wouldn't it?

What are we trying to do here? To survive? To accumulate our own wealth at the expense of others? Unless you're a Buddhist monk, that's probably what most of us are doing. For every dollar I make, there's a dollar missing somewhere. My good fortune comes at the expense of someone's misfortune. This is what happens when you monetize everything and hide what is really important in life. And that is what the world is now, that's all it is. Enrichment or empoverishment. Econonmic up trends and down trends. There really is nothing else that matters any more. Can we get away from that and get back to decency, respect, and kindness? Sure. But is that what people are doing? I don't think so. I think it's moving in the other direction, towards more and more greed and idiocy. More stubborness and violence.

This thread isn't stupid, Dita. This thread is screaming out: "Is there still a chance for us?" I personally support acts of kindness when it is possible and respect until the recipient proves themselves unworthy by their actions. I love peace but I am not going to stand around while someone is attacking me. I know I can't solve the world. I am willing to speak up if I think it can help but I am not prepared to offer myself up as a martyr.

More specifically, as it relates to this thread, I think idiots will continue to be idiots. I think people are set in their ways and it is very difficult to change and if a change does come to someone, it is more likely a change for the worse as entropy spirals us down toward the abyss. However, if a noble thought is not expressed, there is the chance that it could have helped and so we should continue to try, for as long as it seems possible that we might write a better ending for this thing we call existence. Even if the hope is dim, even if the chances of success are slight, we should continue to try. A single candle can keep the darkness at bay and so the darkness never really wins because it does not exist in itself. Only light exists.

I thought it was a good read. In fact, the idea that we are parasites to this planet is not a concept I have not herd before. In truth I believe that everything in this world works in a balance and in cycles. We have proof of multiple Ice Ages throughout the history of this planet. This planet gets hot and cools down. We figured out that cooling was the key to the engine, it was the key to high powered computer chips...yet we have not realized that we need to keep the temperature of this planet down to survive.

1- "I hate God" on an anti-hate thread. Counter-productive.

God has been there for me through many hard times. I get that the belief in Him is challenging and I never had any faith. But when things got really rough in my life, I said..why not? and started to pray and talk to Him. And since that day my life became clear and positive.

but we all have faith in different things.

that being said..I get where ladyluv's statement roots from. Just seems that a lot of people are avoiding calling it out as it is.

say it as it is or don't say it at all. no need to further complicate things with here say dialogue. which is why I took the approach to things that I did. I'd rather put it out there entirely in plain simple english for people to understand and make their own judgements on rather than try to reword what I was going to say things I want to say, without essentially saying them.
