Let's be honest. The bible says nothing about us. It's been twisted. The way to confront these type of people is simple. Use it against them. For example one of my personal favourites:



I found a loophole in Christian Law. You are going to love this one. When you get to the gates of heaven, if you sold your soul to the devil you are not up for judgement and go straight to hell. Ok, I'm a little ignorant here. I was not aware of that. Honestly, Alexis I'll give you my take on religion. I believe in God. But I do not believe in organized religion. They are profitable organization. The Bible, was written by man. Ideas can easily be twisted. Along time ago men like Moses and Jesus came and gave us some great messages, "Love each other, forgive and forget, accept each other." Somewhere along the line, it has been twisted for personal gain.

But Alexis, is it possible for you to quote the passages in either the Torah or the Bible. I do not doubt you, but I was completely ignorant to this.

I believe in a "God" of sorts....tough to see all this stuff in the universe as random. But Lisa is 100% right, all these Holy books are Holy horseshit. Hell, the King James Bible is only about 450 years old and it's based on the ideals of a 16th century king for crying out loud. As for organized religion, it was only invented to keep a supersticious and uneducated population under control by the aristocracy. We're (most of us) no longer uneducated and have access to most information available, so the fairy tales and threats of the invisible man in the sky don't have much impact any more. faith and belief should be the personal choice of the individual, and no one should foist their opinion on anyone else one way or the other.

Everyone is entitled to have an opinion. However, to come in and put down people's beliefs is really not OK. Religion plays an important role in the world and there are many different religions. Belief in God is even more basic than adhering to a specific religion. People are brought up to believe what they believe. It is as much cultural as it is spiritual and religious.
You need to stay away from that, Alexys. You have no right to impose your view of the world on anybody in that respect.

It's too bad this thread was hyjacked and turned nasty. And I think that you were the changing tide in this thread.

Isn't this is a thread about taking stock of what we are doing in the community? This was precisely not a thread about blaming someone for anything. Let's get back to some more positive comments that don't involve blaming others.

Religion is a very touchy subject. Sure, if everyone adhered to the same set of beliefs, we would have peace on earth. But that isn't the way the world is. You can't impose this on a world that is so varied and complex.

I am not religious although I believe in God. I believe God takes care of us and loves us. But that is my belief. I don't force it on anyone.

Shyla, you are a really good moderator. You seem very intelligent and balanced, grounded and full of empathy, fair and just.

I don't put down anyone's beliefs, I've studied religions in depth from all over the world. The fundamentals of a divine being that created it all are hardly scientific and have no basis in the real world from my personal opinion.
