I am making perfect sense. My comment about Ford and Manson wasn't about comparing the two...it's about people blind to see the truth. Toronto has gang problems, gangs are associated with drugs and violence, innocent people get hurt and killed because of and by them. Drug dealers are one prong below child molesters and killers. If they die by their own game I'm happy. If we don't have enough jails to contain them build more! And you think it's ok for Toronto's Mayor to hang out with them Yes I can judge them and him. I could give a rats ass about his personal life style. But as a elected official in a huge spotlight he played a serious game and got BUSTED! Do you think that you or I are not being judged every day...without even knowing? Guess what...we are, and we're nothing! He's responsible to 4 million people! He knows he's judged every day of his life, he's accepted that when he went into politics. Do I judge him...ABSOLUTELY!!!

to also be a public example of community standards & ethics and is not only about doing the job. Which in failing community standards and being an embarrassment to the people of Toronto he has failed his job miserably. As every elected mayor is seen as an ambassador for their city. Yes many elected officials fail in their personal and ethical life and get away with it UNTIL they are caught! Many people break laws and get away with it those who get CAUGHT are the ones punished.

If Rob Ford was an MP, MLA or leader of any elected party he would have been made to step down and resign along time ago.

High office demands great responsibility!

It does seem that at this time there is apparently nothing that can be done about Ford so it seems the city is stuck with him but some of the citizenry seem to be unaware of the perils that might accrue the city in the event of his re-election!

The issue then is not whether he can be removed from office, but rather it is whether he was even fit to hold such a high office. The people of Toronto who claim he has their back and who claim to support his gross behaviour and are willing to vote for him again are being wilfully ignorant of the possible consequences such an individual might bring to their city and eventually to them.

The issue as I see it, is not that he can not meet or do business with a convicted felon. The real problem is that felons normally have an unusual view of morality. Their views of right and wrong are generally not consistent with views held by those of the majority in society and in Ford's case, the laws of the land!

When someone in such high office can be so very comfortable in ?hanging with felons? then it is very likely that he too has a somewhat unusual sense of values himself, and in Ford?s case, has a very warped appreciation of his duties and responsibilities as the elected ?Chief Magistrate? of the City of Toronto. What he does after his office hours on his own time is one thing but that he deliberately vacates his office and his responsibilities even during his office hours to go do such things as hang in the bush to drink with his buddy is most alarming.

If, as many seem to feel, he should not be condemned but supported, then consider how things would play out if instead, let?s say the Chief of Police, had such a 'gangster best bud? and that same ?bud? was then hired as his personal driver and was also one that he regularly consorted with even during his workday activities. If the Chief of Police were to take off from work to go drink under the Gardner with this ?bud? or had this ?bud? surreptitiously drop bags of ?stuff into his unlocked car, would that be considered appropriate behaviour for one holding such high office? Would that pass the smell test?

You know it would not. Nor is it appropriate for the "Chief Magistrate" of Canada's largest city!

Here's what can happen!

Just watching a story on CBC Fifth Estate about corruption of police officers working in close association with gangsters/bikers in the underworld. This story is about once highly respected RCMP officer who had been working undercover for many years and one in particular who'd been working with the Hell?s Angel bikers.

Apparently it is not unusual for such close association to result in the ?good? being tainted by their intended targets. He was among the best there was but after many years began selling police info to the gang!

This is what I have suggested earlier could happen with Ford being so very close with Lisi and other similar individuals. Toronto could be in real jeopardy!

Moral Standard

I didn't say anyone did it to him.
However the fact is he was railroaded and also was convicted of no crime.
Having a picture of you with a pipe is not a crime, or I would be in jail for life.
So he lied, name one politician that does not do this.

I don't know. That's an assumption on my part of course. By the way I've been in a few prisons before...both sides! As an inmate in military prison and as a correctional officer. His corrupt son is next in line, worth over 500 million in less than 3 years of his father in power...from corruption. There always seem to be some confusion about this and many years ago I heard on a radio a very simple explanation about surveillance.

Scenario number one: If two people are in conversation and there is a microphone/camera and neither person knew, then that would be illegal. In such situations, law enforcement officials would need a warrant.

Scenario number two: If two people are in conversation and one person knew there was a microphone/camera, especially if he/she had brought the equipment, then it would not be illegal.


Now I heard that explanation several years ago and I am sure someone with knowledge of current laws can correct me on that.

This is very very complicated.

The easiest way to explain it is like this. When 2 people have a conversation, either or is allowed to record it. A third party needs permission to record the conversation. But then there are tons of things that come into play. In filming, the spirit of the act is considered. For example, when filming a crowd of thousands of people, it's impossible to get consent. But then the Privacy Act come into play, as well as Freedom of the Press and stopping someone taking a picture can be a violation of civil rights. It's not always black and white in these cases. Illegal recordings might be useless in court, but they can be hidden behind the Freedom of Press Civil Law. Remember the shot that got Kennedy?
